Speedo Cable Lubricant

I am in the process of replacing the two piece speedo cable on my 1980 C3 with a one piece cable and doing away with the cruise control unit as this has been disabled long before i bought the car due to all the mods carried out . I know the cable should not be over oiled as lubricant may get drawn up into the speedometer . I already have cans of PTFE for other uses but was thinking of using graphite as it does not gum up over time . Any suggestions ?

My logic would be be to use a graphite impregnated grease........tbh I'm sure did actually do that when the original cable broke.......perhaps 20 years ago!

Cheers Ross , I was leaning towards using graphite grease but we always used graphite powder on the locks when I was Facilities Manager at a Young Offenders High Security Unit . It was approved industry standard as it didn`t clog up mechanisms and draw in dust etc .

Used to use the powder on home multi lever security locks......but it has an irritating habit of getting on the key and then getting deposited on clothing, staining and effectively ruining it forever......

Here are a couple of tools to make it easy to lube cables
They also sell the cable lube

That is the down side . We applied it with little squeezy `puffer` bottles with a narrow spout but had to be so careful not to get it everywhere !!
