T-bar roof strut - seen this before?

So, having spent most of the Silverstone Classic under a tarp once the rain started (nice to meet everyone who attended by the way 👍) I decided to take the plunge and investigate the leak along the rear edge of the roof panels.

Having spent so much time on this car trying to figure out if ‘this bit‘ or ’that bit’ was meant to be there or if one of the hillbilly previous owners just made do with whatever they had lying around, I have come across this configuration under the rear overhead panels and wondered if this ⬇️ is how it’s supposed to look?

Now, I do have the build manual for my year, but it’s not very clear for this particular section.

now, if that wasn’t bad enough (and I’m really hoping its all as it should be), I’m pretty sure the centre bar isn’t supposed to look like this:

i already knew that she had been rear-ended at some point, but it seems i underestimated the damage that had been caused.

Hi Chris , loved the tarp . There was me thinking it was a limited edition roadster cover ! :ROFLMAO: We did chat about your little leak at Silverstone but unfortunately cannot offer much in the way of advice as never had all the trim and fixings apart on my glass T top as it doesn`t leak . Yet ! 🤞
From what I can make of your images it looks like there is damage in certain areas that could contribute to a poor seal around the roof panels . If your car was rear ended maybe there is distortion in the chassis forcing the body out of alignment . I sincerely hope not !

Being a 69 my trim attaches in a different way but the structure looks the same. That crack needs welding but in good news the birdcage looks rust free.

yeah, I have been dreading taking it all off and seeing a sea of rust, especially with a leak. But thanks for the photo, that’s perfect, all of the under side of the liner looks pretty much the same as mine (minus the hillbilly wood screws to keep the liner on 🙄).

From what I can tell, this rivet and hole are not supposed to be there (god knows what ‘they’ thought they were doing with it) and is causing the leak between the various layers of steel.

Plug the hole, and weld up the crack and I’ll be dry as a bone.

All joking aside, I’m quite happy with these welds. Considering that I haven’t picked up a welder in 15years, and it’s a TIG (if you’re a welder, you know), and one of them was upside down (again, if you‘re a welder, you know).
