This is Not Good for the UK ?

WoW, what a bummer :(

For a former great power still trying to flex its military muscles around the world, the United Kingdom is woefully unprepared, with an Army that has ‘shrunk to its smallest size since the Napoleonic Wars’.

With only around 73,000 troops and believe it or not only 40 combat-ready battle tanks, it turns out that the shortcomings are also plaguing the Royal Air Force (RAF), that is facing a pilot shortage after a diversity of hiring scheme unsurprisingly backfired.
An internal document has revealed that the RAF needs a much higher number of pilots for training.

“The Air Force is so short-staffed that candidates who were previously rejected are being urged to reapply, as well as older applicants who have experience in ‘flying-related roles’.
The pleas come as Sir Keir Starmer reiterated the UK’s willingness to put ‘boots on the ground and planes in the air’ to help Ukraine secure a peace deal.”

Unpopular Labour PM Keir Starmer, following the European defense craze, a boost in military spending to 2.5 percent of GDP by 2027.
“The RAF now needs a ‘higher number of pilots in training’, according to a document by Air chiefs want the gaps filled by those who may have previously been rejected.

[…] Mark Francois, the [Conservative] shadow Armed Forces minister, told the paper:
‘The RAF’s availability of combat pilots has been hit by a perfect storm: including woke manipulation of recruiting practices, the revival of civilian airlines post-Covid and technical issues with training aircraft, particularly engine reliability on the Hawk T2.
All this really matters. If we are now going to see ‘jets in the sky’ defending any Ukrainian peace deal, then we need enough trained pilots to fly them.”

Absolutely no-one is surprised that the diversity drive led to a shortage of qualified personnel. It was, of course,
found to be unlawful to white males, would-be recruits.
The air force’s commitment to having
40 percent of women and 20 percent of personnel from ethnic minorities by 2030 is, of course, unattainable.

Each newly elected government, whether Tory, Labour or a coalition of two parties has on average a 4 year span in power before the next election. Continual previous incumbents have avoided serious long term issues during their terms in power for the next party to deal with......knowing in most cases they wouldn't be returned to power at the next election..........so knowing that serious long term issues like re-equipment and personnel for armed forces don't happen, energy production and power generation get put back decades........all because ant party that actually enacts what is really needed wouldn't get back in power, come next election......and we have people like Starmer giving it all the big 'I am' and commiting the UK to overseas war aid with no future possibility of properly funding the plans and seriously weakening our own home defence......

I wanted to be an RAF pilot when I was younger. Sadly, health issues mean I'm not allowed to fly. But if they are changing the rules now, then maybe its the time..... :ROFLMAO:

Load of old tosh, I’m not an expert and you don’t need to be. The headline of that article has been doing the rounds for over a decade. Spend five minutes googling the subject and you’ll find the holes. We sent 14 tanks to Ukraine over the recent past. The challenger 2 costs £10m each and until very recently they haven’t suited the wars we’ve been fighting, and god willing won’t be any time soon. Similarly why would we have more infantry troops 200 years later when we don’t fight wars with men in lines with non repeating weapons, you might as well be saying “The British army has less spears than it did in 1500”.

We do need to increase military spending, freedom is the most expensive thing you can buy or maintain. Britain is one of the world’s most powerful militaries, as in top 10. It’s a highly trained, mobile nuclear force.

Same old stuff. I swear there’s a grand plot by some to talk us into the ground. Spose it sells papers or rather gets clicks, retweets etc in what is the attention age. You’d think we were a third world nation with people dying in the streets from cholera the way they go on.

Guess the reality of potential armed conflict is by the time the 'troops' are mobilised and moved to the front line the 'conflict' is likely to be over and done with following aircraft, warship, missile and drone attacks.
