Tick Over

I have a 1977 C3.
It starts ok (with a little persuasion) but, even when warmed up, when I take my foot of the pedal, it slows down and stops.
It will not tick over. I have put fresh petrol in.
I suppose it could be fuel starvation but last time I ran it for a good ten minutes so it was properly warmed up.
As soon as I took m y foot off the pedal it slowed down and stopped.

Ethanol combined with aftermarket carb gaskets and seals is not always a good combination - I seen the blue supposedly reusable Holley float bowl gaskets leave tiny little shards of gasket material in float bowls. Just one of those is potentially enough to wedge in the float valve in the top of the float bowl and cause the carb to badly flood the engine.......not your issue I know but worth while checking/cleaning out the carb.
