Having just had my car serviced, and noticed the automatic PDR Recording was switched off during that time, wondered about others' views...

Dumb question? So Ian Allan switched it off (Valet Mode) after you left it with them?
Yes - but switched back on when I collected. I hadn't given it much thought until after the fact and was curious about whether there were any recordings of the car being moved - and became suspicious about why it would be switched-off. I guess I'm answering my own question! 😬

Dont have a C8, so I'm a bit confused. Thought your concern was that with PDR on during the service, you would know/have a record if someone had driven it down the road at 180 mph? :) Looking at this, you can set PDR to operate automatically when in Valet Mode and presumably independently of VM? Cant see any reason from the attached, why you would want to put it in Valet Mode when taking it for a service? Does the Teen Driver setting limit the performance ot the car?

I think a lot of garages turn off dashcams/disconnect them by default when working on cars now, is that the reasons they've done it perhaps? On the one hand, as an owner, I can see why it might be a little uncomfortable but as a mechanic, I'm not sure how I'd feel if every car in the workshop was recording me from multiple angles throughout the day 😆

We have reported multi times of C8 owners going to a shop or dealer for service or repairs and when getting their C8s
back they check the stored PDR recordings to see techs abusing the car with high speeds, loads and illegal driving practices
These owners had configured the PDR to start auto records when engine is started

Now that has wacked some dealers, so it looks like they are getting smarter that C8 owners who also had auto records
are now picking up their C8s, to review any recordings to find someone has reset the PDR recorder and no recordings found

So RDR is reset NOT to auto record by someone at dealer, so C8 owners are not seeing what techs are doing in test drives

Best to assure before going into a dealer is to assure the PDR is set to auto record, tell dealer they better not
find it had been reset when you pick C8 up from them and when dropping C8 at repair shop write down what the mileage is

C8 Z51 owner takes car into a Hendricks dealership for repairs which they have for some days
Owner goes to pick C8 up to see the car now has over 15 miles driven on it

He had set the PDR so that it records every time the engine is started
He reviews it to see the 2 techs who seem not to know how to speak English drove over 15 miles and at one point over 103 MPH in a 65 MPH speed limit
Notice how they get right onto the left passing lane and never move to the right and seldom use the turn signals.

One of our teammates with a C8 did this video to show what PDR does :
