KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A 16-year-old boy from Kearney is facing consequences for a high-speed chase Monday night.
The Nebraska State Patrol said a Corvette was clocked at more than 130 miles an hour on Second Avenue near the I-80 interchange just before 10 p.m.
A trooper tried a traffic stop on Highway 44 south of Kearney, but the driver didn’t yield and accelerated to 168 miles an hour, NSP said.
The driver turned east on Highway 6 toward Minden. Then another trooper used stop sticks to slow the vehicle before it reached Minden.
When he got to Minden, the driver turned off his headlights, pulled on to a side street and parked.
A Kearney County Sheriff’s deputy found the vehicle and troopers took the teen into custody moments later.
The teen was cited for willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest and speeding.
The entire pursuit lasted about 10 minutes and covered about 20 miles.
