White/silver on black plates.

According to DVLA Information leaflet INF104 (page 11) it says "From April 2020 vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1980 are also able to display traditional ‘black and white’ number plates. "

Does anyone know a supplier of 'States plates' sizes in black/white?

Thanks

Didn`t know that trev , I thought black & white plates had to be older than 1980 . Obviously a new ruling if applies since April 2020 . My manufacture date is 19th December 1979 .

This is a direct copy from INF104 from the DVLA titled Vehicle registration numbers and number plates:
"Traditional number plates for vehicles made before 1 January 1973 Vehicles made before 1 January 1973 may display traditional ‘black and white’ number plates (for example, white, silver or grey characters on a black plate). From April 2020 vehicles manufactured before 1 January 1980 are also able to display traditional ‘black and white’ number plates. You must: • have applied to DVLA • be registered within the ‘historic vehicles’ tax class. The 40-year exemption date rolls forward automatically each year on 1 April. "

Try States Plates - their standard fare is U.S. size aluminum stamped plates, and they do white (front) and yellow (rear) with black digits to suit current UK regs.
They will customise the plates with your choice of script or, e.g; a Chevy bow-tie, so I'm guessing they can make up a pair with white digits on a black background.
Worth asking, anyway!

P.S. States Plates are based in France, but that isn't a problem in my experience - deliv. was about 2 wks a.r.o.

Thanks Jack,

I particularly wanted white/silver on black plates as my car is now allowed to run with them. Can find firms that do them but not in 6 x 12 inch

Look at Jepsons and Tippers websites - they show all types including white on black. 3 1/8" lettering is the standard for 'classic' up to 1979 - Italian and American can use 2 1/2" lettering - and that's where US size 12" x 6" plate comes in.
Be careful with States Plates - they may be available in UK compliant lettering sizes - but is the font and spacing correct. Probably not a real issue unless a 'difficult' plod pulls you.

They look good. As Ross says, cars that had a 12x6 plate apperture originally (Americans, Italians, some Asian imports etc) are legally able to use the smaller "motor cycle size" lettering, correctly spaced.
Indeed. My Mitsi FTO has what we'd call a motorbike plate on the back as that's the size of the gap in the rear bumper. It's a Jap import. I also have a matching white front plate the same size, though strictly not needed as the front can accommodate any plate. But I think it looks better like that. Had the car since 2004 with no issues with it.

Usually a waiting list for States Plates. I get my mine from Thorncraft Motorcycles 01254 264230 and it's all done via phone or email. Black n silver for me but they seem to do all sorts
