Who likes flares

Well, I’ve had my fair share of flares during the 1970’s most of the time in brown, but I do not like them on C2 ( mid year) sting Rays. To my eyes they just look wrong.
But as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I also do not like adding flares as they just look like in most cases as being tacked on

so another way as I did with my C5 is mini tubing
I went 1 1/2 inches per side allowed going to 12 inch wide rear wheels with 335/30/18 tires and did not require offset type of rims
The Targa top will still fit in the hatch but just cannot use the stock latch downs

Being this is all hidden, anyone can really do this with other Corvette

Can see the process on my website :

On the subject of flares......
I bought bought my first pair of flared 'strides' in late '67. Looked the dogs danglies (or so I thought back in the day) - did it improve my 'pulling' abilities (along with the obligatory wide lapelled jacket and psychedelic kipper tie) at the Ilford Palais on Saturday nights?........doubtful.....

Personally I'm not sure that flares enhance the lines of any properly designed car. For track use where a wider track and an increased tyre patch can be advantageous I can see the advantage, but for normal road use what's the point? The point of course is getting the 'look'. On the track you fitted flares because you'd fitted wider wheels. As a styling mod fitting flares means that to avoid looking ridiculous you have to fit wider wheels, whether you need them or not.
Add-on flares can look exactly like what they are but on this C3 they are particularly well integrated and the car looks the dog's dangly bits...flares.JPG
...and intended for what it is - a proper race car. :)

Now there were "flares" and "flares" Ross? Widest being the "Loons". Did you have those? No mention of the shoes/boots there? I'm thinking cuban heeled "winkle picker" Chelsea boots?

6” or 8 “ platforms for me. ( Dave Hill of Slade would have been proud of me) I was too young to drive then, but my dad and uncles and a few older friends with licenses drove with those on. Looking back I don’t know how they did it.

Flares and Bellbottoms - Flares being perhaps a little more restrained and basically a standard wider leg trouser but with the leg width tapering down from under the 'arris to the knee - and then back out to the base of the leg which (to look correct) should rest lightly on the shoe to give a perfect line.
Much in the same way as a tailer would correctly measure the length of pair of 'straights's - should hang low to the rear of the heel (but not touching the ground) and the front of the trouser leg should loosely resting on the top of the toes giving a perfect 'line' when standing, yet not 'flapping' around too much when walking .
Bell Bottoms simply taper ourwards from under the 'arris, getting wider all the way down. Look great on tall, statuesque females........perhaps not blokes?
