Pieces of this 2001 Corvette were left scattered along I-75 in Florida on Wednesday after a high-speed crash sent two teens to the hospital with serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened in Pasco County in the southbound lanes of the interstate near Overpass Road.

An 18-year-old man from Spring Hill, Florida was driving the Corvette at a “high rate of speed” when he lost control, swerving to the inside shoulder, striking a guard rail, and sliding across three southbound lanes before stopping on the west shoulder.

The impact apparently knocked the engine out of the car, leaving it lying next to the guard rail, while various other pieces of the car including tires and body panels were also scattered along the emergency lane.

The driver and his 18-year-old female passenger had to be airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
Police say they both were wearing their seatbelts.
The crash snarled traffic temporarily in all southbound lanes of I-75 as the scene was cleared.
