Windscreen wipers

Went to put my wipers back on the car this afternoon, but it was harder than I expected to get the arm onto the splines. The spring in the arm was too strong for me to be able to line it up and I was scared I'd slip and scratch my new paint! Is there a trick to doing this?

I put the arm onto the top of the splines then holding that down with one hand lift the arm away from the screen so that it brings it into alignment then it slips on. They only go in one place on a Vette from memory.

Trouble is until I lift the arm the I can't get the splines to engage as they are tipped too far over. I wonder if it would be easier if I move the blade position further up the screen.

There’s something I the back of my mind that when I took mine off I moved them to full sweep rather than park.

Oddly I can’t recall any any difficulty getting mine on so not sure what the method is. Could you wedge something in the pivot somehow to temporarily hold it more open whilst you fitted it?

apparently there is a tool to make this job easier, if I can't get the arms on then I'll make one of these.

I think I have removed mine to re-position them a tad. And, I think I did as suggested, moved them up to the "full sweep" position first. That way the arms were in line with the screen pillar and that seemed to make life easier - a bit!
