No need to go to all that trouble . I have replaced the switch on my 1980 by removing all the screws from the speedo / rev counter binnacle to allow it to move forward a bit . Unscrew the fixings on the edge of the dashboard by the A pillar . This will allow you to ease the dash forward a bit to reach behind it to access the rear of the switch to remove cable connector . You will have to be very carefull not to crack or distort the dash material so best to do it in a warm environment when things are more pliable . Disconnect the heater ducting to vent under bottom edge of dash as you ease it forward , its just a push fit .You will need a very short posidrive screw driver to get behind the dash to undo the screw that holds switch in place . If yours has an adjustable steering column you can move that up and down too for a bit more space .It is fiddley but can be done that way . I have done it twice as the first new switch I bought was faulty and had to wait for a replacement from Ecklers :( Good luck !
