Americana Meet

Just a short trip up the A5 for the C3 today to Gasoline Juice `s Americana Meet at the old Military Depot / Baracks at Weedon Bec that dates back to the Nepolionic Wars . Three Vettes turned out , Roger Thornton in his bog block C2, , a really nice guy named Matt in his lovely Elkhart Green 1973 C3 convertable who I hopefully charmed into joining the club , and a stunning C7 ZO6 . Didn`t manage to nail the owner , there was no CCCUK sticker on the car so is it anyone here ? The weather played ball too and better than forecast with some warm sunshine .
Gasoline Juice is a great place to hang out , talk cars, drink coffee , grab a burger and look around the eclectic Design Studio that features very artistic creations based on automotive and aviation themes .DSC_2226.JPGDSC_2224.JPGDSC_2223.JPGDSC_2213.JPGDSC_2210.JPGDSC_2207.JPGDSC_2208.JPGDSC_2205.JPG

Great catch up Mike. Here's another couple of pics the C7 Z06 was awesome.
The 69 RS SS Camaro convertible was ex Richard Burns Rally Champion. Made me miss my first gens.

Great to see you too Roger . Quite a history with that Camaro then . Don`t know how I missed getting a photo of that but think he didn`t stay long . I have always been a big fan of first generation Camaro`s too . As a youth in the 60`s I lusted after them as they were so cool compared to Mustangs !! Like we were saying though , I wish I still had my 80`s Camaro Z28 lookalike - the wide body Starion Turbo. Starion.jpg

The Edsel still puts a smile on my face, even the '59 with the radiator grille toned down from the hilarious 'horses collar' on the '58. The 1960 production model got rid of it completely and wasn't a bad looking car, but the image of the '58 will always recall to mind Ford's biggest flop. :)(n)

Great big ugly grills are certainly “in fashion” from some manufacturers. Not sure what model BMW I saw on Friday, but it was hideous. Just Too much “grill”

Once......most manufacturers had a unique grille to help identify what would have otherwise been a bland 'clone' of all similar cars........still the same now with certain car co's using a recognisable 'face'.......IMHO BMW have got it badly wrong.........styling is good enough not to need ugly 'face' grilles.

So true. BMW’s twin “kidney” grills have been their trademark look for many years, and looked nice/stylish. They have however in recent years overtook the front of their vehicles and look horrible. Some Audi and Lexus SUV’s are heading the same way if not already got there.

Yes indeed. To quote Lexus....."The spindle grille is a key element of a car's 'face', helping to create a touchstone for public recognition and reaction"

....I won't give you my reaction on a public forum...:poop:

Bring back the days when big grills made a proper statement and served a practical purpose too . Taken at Bicester Scramble today .
