Another C3 Import Question!...

Up until last March I used to move cars on RoRo's, both loading new luxury cars for export and unloading new imported cars. There were always a number of personal vehicles coming and going. With the personal imports, they invariably had flat batteries after several weeks at sea. No problem - just jump start it and rev the cold engine as hard as you can to get some charge in the battery, before driving it off the vessel. Won't start at all? - no problem, just drag it off and leave it dockside for somebody else to deal with. Can't find any way to tie it to the deck so it doesn't move en route? No problem, lash it using a wheel spoke. Managed to catch it on a stanchion? No worries - blame the shippers. Is that a Corvette in the corner? Stand back as there will be a stampede of young drivers wanting to "have a go".

Having said that, most survive unscathed so please don't have sleepless nights.......................
I too had heard stories of ro ro loaders racing each other up through the decks, and yes dragging cars out with a fork lift and flat spotting the tyres. Just another car to them with no thought for other peoples property, Shocking 😀

No , we are in cornwall , no two days the same so never know what we are going to get , the paint does pop in the sun tho πŸ‘any news on your search James ?
That makes sense now. I'm trying any chance I get to view chrome and rubber C3's. I'm definitely buying one before I get the dreaded costs of moving out which will push me back even further so I need to secure one asap!

If anyone has interest in this Corvette I have saved the two or three year old dealer advertisement info from when it was sold then brought to the UK which includes a lot of detailed photos and a walk-around video. When I looked at it 23rd Dec 2020 it had some slight nose damage having rolled into a bench which the current owner was having fixed and painted?

I had an uneasy feeling that every Jack Tar and stevedor on the docks had a damned good thrash in my C3 !
Me too, best not to think about it . Both my vans I insisted on collecting myself, one from bristol docks and one from hull , I couldnt bear the thought of someone thrashing. It 400 hundred miles to cornwall then me gently running it inπŸ˜©πŸ˜πŸ‘

I have only brought one Corvette over in a container before and I have to say, apart from delays, I had no issues with that process.
I drove it to the port in the US and collected in the UK.

One problem I did have was an incredible attempted bit of deceit by the company doing the SVA.

Once the work was completed, I was oddly asked to pick the car up at night from a private address but even in the dark, I could see the car looked like it had been rally crossed, never seen a car more dirty!

My neighbour at the time, a policeman who had a side valet business set about cleaning it the next morning and was shocked to find a huge scuff on the rear of the car and also on a wing.

As he had cleaned the car upon its arrival pre SVA he new it was 100% immaculate.

Long story short, the SVA company flatly denied they had caused any damage, so I had to take them to court with the policeman as a witness and with the before and after photos.

Days prior to the case, I got a letter of admission and confirmation they would cover any repairs.

Seemingly someone backed it into a wall and also, the person working on the lights scratched the wing with a belt buckle having not put a cover over the area being worked on and then they even deliberately got it dirty to hide the damage! 🀬

So as not to create a thread for every question I have, could someone kindly enlighten me on the following please.

On a 1972 LT-1 350 with the Turbo Hydra-matic Automatic box, what was the hp?

If it varies, how do I establish the hp?
Thank you.

1970 - 370hp LT1
1971 - 330hp LT1
1972 - 255hp LT1
All things are not as seems however - 1970 was high compression. 1971 had reduced compression partly for emission reasons and the earlier need for premium fuel. Prior to 1972 HP measurements were 'gross' - so no ancilleries or exhaust system connected. '72 was as '71 and measured 'nett' with everything connected.

My C3 came in through Hull in the end instead of Southampton , but via the South Pacific , the Indian Ocean , the Med and the Baltic I recon !!! Pity they missed out the Grand Union Canal as they could have dropped it off two miles from my house !!!

The only damage that occurred to my car (though it could be argued it would be difficult to tell) was the rear suspension struts that were bent when they picked up the car (presumably from the rear) with a forklift - the car was a non runner. Not a big deal as they were going to be replaced anyway but they are vulnerable underneath.

Not sure what reference sites other members use but I have found that the corvsport.com website has some good data.

Base 350/ 200 hp
Much appreciated Gavin.
What I should also have asked was...

What engine options were there in 71 & 72 specifically with an automatic? (i.e Was the LS-5 or LS-6 available with an auto transmission?)
