Can't quite remember the name of the car dealer here - he moved-out to north Essex somewhere. One of my buddies Dave Fisher worked for him for years. I remember the time he had several XK220's there - presumably ex race cars, all in really violent colours like orange and green. Jeez were they noisy - didn't even sound like 6 cylinder engines. Just remembered the name - Destephano CarsI went to view this car at Corvette Kingdom it was a nice car but did not buy it, later I was so surprised to see it for sale in Chadwell Heath Essex very close to my house on the road from Romford to Stratford then full of small car dealers, you can just see my Black 1980 Corvette.View attachment 4636View attachment 4637
Jonny C4 great photos of John's Saudi 1977 Corvette I have not seen them before.![]()
I am thinking this may be the same Russell from the early 80s that actually sprayed the red C2 himselfThis was a lovely C2 Corvette owned by Russell and still could be, I have no idea.
Russell lived near me in Rush Green Essex, I went to Russell’s house once, Russell had a fantastic double garage which was as clean as an operating theatre and Russell owned another Corvette but I can’t remember which Corvette but I have a feeling it was also a C2 Corvette.
The registration RMS 111 is now on a Ferrari 365GT4 which could be Russell’s although I have no idea, but Keith tells me Russell rents cars to the movie business so a good chance.

That building has only been demolished relative recently (within last five years) - that whole section of the Romford/Ilford road and its side roads from North Street Romford (where the one time famous famous custom painter Allan Llewellyn's A & L Autos was based - thru' Deals on Wheels a few doors away from Allens the Ford Dealers - and the football club in Cottons Park where Eastern Cruisers would meet (both in Romford) - past Chadwell Heath station which had Cooks tool shop next door (probably the best tool shop this side of London) - Customville when they were at Goodmayes (now just around the corner in Dagenham - up past Seven Kings station and where Jakes Burger Bar used to be (and the hub for the weekly Sunday night Eastern Cruisers cruise-out to terrorise other road users en-route some of the Essex country pubs) - past another car dealer (Epping Car Co?) who usually had an American car or two - thru' to Ilford with Custom Maid. This whole 3 or 4 mile stretch was historically a hotbed of custom and American car owners and specialists. Those were the days.......................................Hi Roscobbc you must have a good memory, Destephano Cars that sounds familiar to me as well, you must have recognised the location.
You will know Destephano Cars was almost next door to the public house first named the Chadwell Arms then The Bird Nest more like a night club then back to Chadwell Arms again before it was knocked down for redevelopment, sad a lovely looking building had to go.
I think I may have meet you very recently at the Red Lion the Essex area meeting place, I came in my Green TR6 and there was that fantastic steam car which I think you got a short ride on.
The internet is fantastic that’s where I found the photo of the Chadwell Arms, also Jonny C4 photos of John’s car, but I can just hear my great grandchildren asking there parents what was the internet.

Russell - I did not know his surname - if I have it right he was a friend of Colin who later on went on to buy a Buick Roadmaster and is a colleague of Keith BHi Roscobbc a great reply.
I lived in Goodmayes nearly all my young life, I think Jakes Burger Bar Seven Kings is still there.
W I Cookes (Precision Tools) Ltd was an amazing company, Custom Maid Ilford rebuilt my XJS automatic gearbox because it was a GM automatic gear box made by the German company ZF Friedrichshafen AG, I know you will remember Pipe Craft Chadwell Heath a good place for American car exhausts, as for Cottons Park I practised Judo six time a week, Romford & Hornchuch Judo Club was my main Judo club based in Cottons Parks sports pavilion, it was an extremely strong club and one of the founder members of the BJA, and every Thursday night and Sunday afternoon until 2pm back thenyou could find us in the public bar in the Sun pub opposite Cottons Park.
Hi Daytona Vette I did not want to miss spell Russell's surname, it sounded like Schatner if that helps.
