Whilst tidying the garage I noticed one of the calipers was leaking. They’re almost new. Anyone know a Vette caliper to leak because it’s sitting with the pistons extended?

Under a normal situation with calipers on car and Vette has been standing for a few weeks or so, lip seal pistons can weep, hence it is good to change to the "O" ring seal which negates that issue.

There are a few things on the car that we’re brand new when I got it and thought that I wouldn’t need to do anything with. Calipers and master cylinder were some of those things.

Stupid question, I've just seen all the sheeting you've put up to keep the spray in!
How much did you thin it, to get it to spray nicely?

I went with about 10% thinners to start with. But it was a little thick so just went by eye for the second batch. Probably around 15%.

Floor’s a tad sticky so will have to wait until tomorrow to see what it’s turned out like. I’m struggling to resist the urge to go have a nosey!

I couldn't get a decent spray with 10% and I was doing it in warmer weather than you, unless your garage is well heated.

There’s no heating in there. I put the paint in the house for an hour before hand. I’ve also turned the fan right down and the volume pretty far up. It’s not show quality but the coverage is good.

Ive got a big 2mm nozzle on the gun too

This comment made me laugh so hard, because I had EXACTLY the same thought about so many parts of my car (brakes, suspension, engine ect) and ended up having to redo almost everything LOL.

On a side note, since you're doing all this work would it not be easier to fit a TKO600 transmission? It's on my to do list one day as I can imagine the lowly TH400 gets boring pretty quickly.

The calipers have even got the little quality control sticker in them. Maybe the pistons have just popped beyond the lip seal as there’s no disc there.

I can’t use a Tremec as it has to be as homologated in period. Even the ratios you can use are defined.

2nd coat on the bottom of the chassis in the week 20% thinners seem best. Will flip it over tomorrow to do the top.

Spent most of the day cleaning contact adhesive off the interior. Have managed to do all of one footwell 🙄

Then spent 3 hours trying to remove the steering lock, never run them in race cars incase they do something stupid.

The instructions to just push the tab in sounded so simple but just didn’t work. Eventually I gave up and cut the ignition barrel off and drilled and smashed the rest out. Turns out that the little tab that holds it in place was split in two. So no amount of pushing and fiddling was going to release it.

Struggling to get hold of the place in the States I’ve ordered the new rear arms from, which is getting worrying as I’m going to have to make a decision soon about what to do as I’ll fall behind getting it ready for rollcage fitment in April.

Took the plunge and started one of the bits I didn’t want to do, windscreen frame repair.

Left corner removed and worse than thought so cut part of the bulkhead away. It was broken around the wiper mount anyway so needed to be repaired.

I measured about 20 tie in points to different parts of the windscreen so fingers crossed it’ll go back in the right place. Top and right side removed left it ok. Need to do some sanding and rust treatment before I start putting the new parts in

Couple of late nights and windscreen frame is welded in place, just need to do the bottom corner. Fingers crossed the windscreen will fit

Corner of the windscreen frame now done. You can’t get the correct shaped part so I’ve had to modify the 73 on panel to fit correctly with a few sheets of plate to build up the shape.
