Sam, the Lady owner had this Corvette on display at Tatton Park last weekend so while it is currently advertised for sale I asked if I could show it here to which she agreed and even said if a club member is interested she will agree a discount on the current ask. All the details in the link to her website and of special note, it is one of the 50 odd Corvette Pace Cars that paraded around Indy.

I have no affiliation with this Corvette aside from Southern Cars is where I bought my first Corvette 36 years ago also a C4 and blow me she recognised me when I approached her and asked if I still had the C4 o_O

Cheers,

Stuart

The 1995 pace car is beautiful. A very striking colour/graphic package. Not so outrageous as the 1998 version with its yellow wheels.
Even better it’s a parade car, and 1995 Pace car was a low production number at 527

There was one of these up for sale on and off a couple of years ago at a place called oldtimer cars in Manchester way I think. That was a low mileage example

Out of all the corvette pace cars, the one that is held in possibly the highest regard is still the old 1978. Surprisingly the first ever corvette to pace the Indy.
Not rare, as over 6500 produced ( one for every Chevrolet dealer to fend off the rear of litigation)
But that Black and Silver colour scheme really popped.

Three actual pace cars are usually produced to include safety features required along with the strobe lighting.
These cars are not for sale, one is kept by Chevrolet, one is given to the Indy motor speedway, and one to the race winner.
Chevrolet produce various amounts of replicas for sale to the public and for use at the race as parade cars for celebrities etc which are then sold on to the public.

The controversy surrounding the 1978 pace car was due to Chevrolets replica amount. This was their first attempt at cashing in on the race. They then decided to built one for each Chevrolet dealership , which numbered over 6500 at the time, to counter any litigation from dealerships that may not have got one.
Dealerships auctioned their single car off for sometimes double + the sticker price. Pace car fever broke out, speculators and investors fought to get one. Some cost $20K in 1978.
There’s still plenty of cars out there with minuscule mileage on them.

I was at Lendrum and Hartmans premises when their pace car was delivered to them. It was filthy dirty. Next time I saw it its door decals were on and it was gleaming.

I see my ‘86 is forgotten again. Maybe the fact you could get it in any available color with a different decal pack based on color makes it a lesser Pace Car. Or maybe that all 7315 convertibles were Pace Cars. Either way, maybe I should install my decals. Fun fact, the decal says “May 25, 1986”, but due to rain, the race was actually run on May 31, 1986.CorvetteFactory.jpeg

Yes, the 1986 corvette convertible in some ways is the forgotten/least memorable and valuable of the corvette pace cars. Why Chevrolet decided to call ALL 1986 convertible’s pace cars only they know. The actual pace car was yellow with a graphite interior and looked great. 732 were ordered by the public in that colour.
The PC was driven by retired air force general Chuck Yeager.
I bought mine ( in yellow) from corvette shop N supplies in Tampa FL in 1987. Loved it.

My Franklin mint 1:24 1986 corvette pace car is a very limited edition made exclusively for mid America ( corvette parts supplier) and has all the pace car decals on it. The standard issue Franklin mint car did not.

It’s not just the Indy 500 that has pace cars.
Here’s a couple of corvette pace cars from other series that look pretty nice

The 2006 corvette pace car for the Daytona 500

The 2008 corvette pace car for Brickyard 400
