Front valance cut outs

Cleaning around the front valance of my 72 today and noticed a large hole cut out either side below the egg crate grills. I am guessing they may be air intakes , then i noticed the egg crate grills have a thin plastic mud shield behind. Them and wondered if the lower holes would have had similar to stop road water and mud getting in. Can anyone shed light on what is normal and whether I should be tracking down some parts. Many thanks

Do you mean these holes?

They’re for air flow to the radiator.
As for your mud shield, there are headlight shields but I’m not sure there’s supposed to be anything else.

Ah thanks, i realised the egg crate covers were to shield the lights didnt know if the holes should be open ,thanks for clearing things up
