Gas tank lid

Hi all , on a c3 petrol tank, the twist cap under the flap, syould this have a rubber or cork gasket? Mine is just metal to metal and would be surprised if it was liquid or vapor proof . What do you have under your cap?

I no longer have the original cap as I've changed it for a locking version. But, I do know that the original cap did have a gasket, as does the locking one.
