Hi All,

I have just had my renewal quote from Footman James for my 2004 C4 and they have upped the premium from £250 to £1000!!! Apparently its because they have reclassified 2001 - 2004 cars in 'modern classics'. I refuse to be robbed blind - so can I ask for any recommendations please?? Good value low mileage type classic policy is what I am looking for - and trying to avoid wasting hours on the phone and if possible reward the decent companies out there...

Thanks in advance

Try Classic Line , I keep recommending them for the many posts about insurance on the forum . They provide agreed valuations , limited mileage discounts and breakdown cover plus CCCUK discount . I have been with them 9 years with no complaint .

Wow, that’s a big increase. I’d get various companies telephone number and start ringing around. Yes, it’s a pain, but what else is there. Companies vary so much on model, year, location etc what a company quotes for say a C2 can seem reasonable, but for a C5 may be well dear.

Try Compare the Meerkat - when I put my C5 details in it came up with my existing broker as the best deal [Peter Best Insurance Services] @ £367. This includes various upgrades to the car including a remap! Good luck!

Chris P Duck, its worth noting that there was no quible either with Classic Line for my C3 with body mods , engine swap and performance upgrades .

I've used Classicline for quite a few years now for my C5 and my other classic cars (all modified) and i find them excellent. They also have a very good record if things go wrong. They also answer the phone very promptly - which is a bonus these days.

Another vote for Classic Line, nothing to do with the price (they were almost the cheapest) but the customer service was night and day with everyone else I approached. Gives me confidence that if I ever need to claim it'll be a pain free process.

I'm with Lancaster for my two cars. Though I don't have anything as new as a "2004 C4" in my fleet (I thought C4s stopped being made in 1996?).
