Current UK regs call for a minumum (on newer vehicles) on the rear of,
A. pair of side lights
B. pair of brake lights.
C. pair of amber indicators
C. high level brake light.
D. rear 'back-up' (reversing) light.
E. high intensity rear fog light.
F. registration plate light.
G. illuminated side markers are addtionally required
Minimum standard is one rear high intensity fog light on the off-side of the vehicle with a 'matching' (but usually clear) white back-up light on the nearside.
There is nothing to stop an owner doubling-up on back-up or fog lights......which is what the image indicates ('using-up' some added lamp clusters?)
The two red lights on the rear bumper are fog lights. Yes, they do look like an afterthought as they are not inset. Great in foggy conditions, and have been a requirement on UK cars since about 1982 ( I think)
