And their parents let them do it, even helping them up on them to look inside the car.

To me the parents are the problem, I don't blame the kids, they know no better, they probably don't even know what the shiny pipe bits are. One thing that always concerned me when I had my Cobra was kids touching the pipes not long after I had arrived, I had no shields. That always concerned me more than them standing on them.
