Indeed they were fast and advanced design for the era but the looks were perhaps a bit too `out there ` for some tastes .Back in '62 the Avanti was billed as the 'Worlds fastest production car'. Personally I loved the asymmetric shape and remember one campaigning on British race circuits to great effect back in the late '60's. I visited the Pine Ridge car Museum near Melbourne Australia several years ago and discovered the owner had a shedload of them.
The 66 that Jill Ireland was driving looked like a very nice straight unmolested example. Factory hubcaps still there. Only thing I didn’t like about it was it had a rear luggage rack fitted.The car is beautiful but those Death Wish films are some of the worst films ever in Hollywood history imo,.
Totally agree , I keep expecting to see snorkel and flippers on the trunk lid .Some continental kits look nice, but some look hideous IMO. Some look like a diving platform on a boat.
