If we had a crystal ball we'd be cashing in on all those £50 old fords that we hoarded that are now worth tens of thousands. My mate has a genuine ford escort mk 1 works car that he's had for probably 40 years that's rusting in his garage. I thought he was daft not cashing in a few years ago, but it's at least doubled in value since then. He says that it's his pension.

My mate's escort that i mentioned will now be probably £75k. It was only used as a spare car by Ford motorsport, so no famous drivers. If it had been, then who knows the value. My 1953 Bel air has probably had £10k added to value in the last 5 years judging by recent prices. However, I rarely sell my cars, so value will only be realised on my demise lol. My 2 V8 Minors and my Bel Air will be with me till the end.

You need to move on to the 'next' thing.........and there lies the skill, perhaps some crystal ball activity.........perhaps not everyones cup of tea, but a solid car over on Car and Classic for £20K

It seems that really old cars aren't where the money is these days as it's folk who couldn't afford the hot ticket back when they were young that are now buying these aspirational cars. Cars from the 20's and 30's aren't on the radar of most 30 - 40 year olds, but cars of the 80's and 90's and possibly for us crystal ball gazers - the noughties are. Who knows, the C5 Corvette may be a riser.

Correct. The vintage cars have become too old and antiquated for today’s younger buyers. Hell, they were always too old for me when I was young. Anything before the mid fifties was out for me. Wasn’t even sure about a 53 vet at one time. The buyers for those antiques are slowly disappearing, where as cars from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s are wanted. Yes, there’s an ass for every seat it’s just a matter of finding them.

It’s hard to believe that the C5 is now some 25 years old. I can vividly remember the hype before its launch. The old C4 is gaining in popularity now, and people are appreciating what a good car is was/is, with prices stateside rising according for good examples. It’s good value for money at the moment.

Indeed. The same thing happened when Ferrari introduced the new mid engined 365BB in 1974. The old traditional front engined 365GTB “Daytona” was now old hat. My friends dad couldn’t wait to get rid of his Daytona to get a new BB. Now look at the price of the old hat Daytona. I must admit we as 14 year old car mad kids thought his new BB was great. . He still has the BB, hasn’t been used for 35+ years. Poor old girls covered with bits and bobs in the garage. I remember her brand new and gleaming.

Yep I am keeping my C7 Z06 manual transmission ( even if I do get a C8 Z06) it’s a wonderful car with sooo much power, the only thing to be careful with is keeping the rear end in a straight line.

If I had crystal balls , knowing my luck I would sit on them and crush them !! A genuine Ford Works Escort Mk 1 twin cam resides in the workshop where I keep my Vette . It is one of several cars owned by a very wealthy `Gentleman Racer ` and it is now so valuable that even he won`t race it . He owns another non works car that
is period correct and has FIA papers to race instead . The genuine article is valued at big bucks and then some .

When I first started thinking about buying a C3 I came across this .......

Since I subsequently acquired "an early chrome-bumpered car with matching numbers and a manual gearbox" , and since I did pay more than "a couple of cornflake boxes, a few conkers, and the loose change in my pocket" I'm hoping he's proved right!

Corvettes stateside have ALWAYS been good value for money. A Big Bang for your buck, compared with the imported rivals ( jaguar, Porsche etc) and once a few years old even more so. Every youngsters dream was to own a vette. Over here with various import taxes and duties, purchase tax etc not so much when new.

My mate's one is the same as that, but needing some work. I've not seen it for years, but remember chasing him along local roads in my tweaked Morris Minor. At a roundabout he didn't let off and straightlined across a pavement and grass verge.
