Hi all , anyone know what the original dull finish on the finned alloy rocker covers was ? My 72 has them the same As the LT 1.but They are a little tired,I have seen some polished but quite like the dull finish if it was mint. Not sure if it is paint or anodized.
I had my stock covers shot peened and then a chemically bonded coating applied ( not powder coated ) that is heat resistant and is used on race car components . The colour and finish is slightly matt as per original . Got both covers and the eight clamps done locally for 拢100 .

that looks a nice finish and pretty factory looking. Is there a name for the system I should ask for, and what type of company, platers, powder coaters or painters ? Many thanks

It was exactly what I wanted , a virtual stock factory finish . I have dug out the invoice but it does not specify the coating used . I will have to delve a bit deeper as cannot remember what it was called other than the fact it bonds to the material being coated . I had it done at Sandwell UK Ltd in Towcester near me which I know is no use to you being down there in Cornwall . Sandwell are a Surface Engineering Solutions specialist and was recommended them by the guy who does all the race car work where I keep the Vette . I will ask him when I see him tomorrow .

Hi Mad4 , The coating I had done was Xylan 1270 - Silver . It is a flouropolymer that has high temperature resistance as well as abrasion and stain resistance . I spoke to Sandwell today who did the job and unfortunately it is now discontinued . Maybe a google search might throw up an alternative .
