Trackers + Garages

Hi team, I have recently bought a 73 C3, and it's on its way over from the US to me on the outskirts of London. I was wondering if any of you have trackers on your cars, is it worth it? Looking at the SmartTrack Protector Pro.

Second of all, do any of you know any garages in west London, or secure underground parking...?

Congrats on the new car! Do you mean garages to look after/service your car, or just for storage? Ian Goss at IGS American in Surbiton is the man to talk to for the former. Not too far from you:

Amazing, thank you. I'm not looking for a garage to fix my car, I'm looking for a garage to store my car away from the elements.

Congrats on the new car. Gotta love a blue C3 Corvette .

As for London based stuff - I can't help you there as I live out in the sticks in the west country.

Cheers! It's a beauty.

It will start it's life in Dorset until it's London ready ;) So if you're near there, let's go for a spin.

I'm near Taunton in Somerset. Would love to see another blue Corvette and go for a drive. Sadly, very limited spare time at the moment due to a fairly new-ish born child. I'm either at work or relieving the wife from the screaming for a while. :ROFLMAO:

When is the Corvette moving up to London?

Not much room in a C3 for a toddler, I hear. I have the same problem with my dog...didn't have a dog when I owned my last C3!!

Not entirely sure how long it's going to take to get shipped over here, but il let you know, for sure - would be great to link up for a drive.

I am not sure where you wanted to be in West London but these guys Storage | Duke Of London have a good reputation amongst some of my friends who have classic cars. They are in the Kew area so new the M4/A4 routes and outside the ULEZ are I believe. They have events etc going on too plus maintenance capabilities although they are not Corvette specialists.

On trackers I like them for basic security reasons and can help with insurance costs. I would especially have one if my car is in storage since the newer version will alert you if you car moves without your approval and where is does move to. Also get one that tells you what its battery state is. Nothering worse than picking-up upo your car from starge to find the cleaner has unplugged your tirckle charger and also your tracker will fail if your battery goes flat.

If you go for an underground facility, make sure your tracker still works in there otherwise things like battery status probably won't work until it is above ground.

Thank you for that, I already reached out to Mervin @ Duke of London, but no response as yet, but it's a great idea. I may just rent my own garage, as it's £112/m where I live, but unsure of how safe that is...anyone have with experience of this?

This was the tracker, that I am thinking of getting installed. Ship My Car does all this for you, which is pretty handy, and it's very reasonable too.

I use Ian Goss at IGS Surbiton. Excellent in every way!
I don't doubt his ability, however, my car is being shipped by Ship my Car, who offer the service. So it only seems worth getting them to do it, before collecting the car.

I have always used the same garage, and I think that's key when you have an old car - and that's Mario @ Go Performance Cars, in Tolworth. He's worked on all my cars, and done so very well.

I rent garaging which is secure in a compound. Its got power so I can keep it on an battery conditioner. Its immobilised, just in case. I find it more convenient, and controllable, than storage as I can come and go as I please. Its also cheaper than storage.

Yea, I agree. I just got a quote back from Duke of London, they charge £363/month, which is considerable - probably geared more towards supercars...I think the Garage route might make more sense at this stage.

The 'things' that would always concern me about leaving a car with a 'storage' company.
How secure it the premises is against yobbo's breaking-in to the unit and damaging/torching and'or stealing components or vehicles.
Less than respectable compound/unit owners /landlords torching/flooding the building for an insurance claim.
How effective and comprehensive their security/cctv/fire protection system is. Are the premises 'manned' 24/7.
Even the simplest electrical applicance/system left permanently connected to a vehicle is a potential risk.
How comprehensive is the compound/units/your own insurance in respect of any potential claim. What are the exclusions?

Duke of London is very secure, take a look at this.

During the summer months the T roofs on my '68 are permanently off and stowed in an aftermarket soft padded carry case. The is still enough room in front of the case to store a toolbox and two cases with screwdriver and socket sets on top of the padded cases. Clothing and loose items go on top of the case with jack, tyre inflator, coolant, engine oil and ps fluid + jump leads in storage bin. Oh, and there's a fair sized fire extinguisher clipped to the side of the rear storage area. Things go get rather manic when out on the road and a sudden shower necessitates installing the T roofs and rear window.........
