As I removed all the ratty underskirts at the front and was overheating (190deg ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ) I refurbished, modified, and refitted the old parts.
Now its all cool with about 170deg on the L98 motor.
A bit of B&Qs 10mm mesh keeps stones, cyclists and cow/horseshit etc out of my radiator (intercooler is removed).

I've ordered a new hood to replace the tatty original. I've found a UK supplier who offered a few colour options and I've decided on Purple as a change from the standard black. I've also been speaking to a local trimmer about redoing the seats and may well go for that. I also plan to get the Antera wheels repainted in yellow to restore the pace car look.

That's not purple. The colour is called Radar Blue WA9018 ..a GM/Isuzu colour.
My wife's 20191122_190305.jpgS10 truck has the same shade.

Yes, I know, but in the sunlight it definitely looks more purple than blue. I had a fabric sample sent in navy, which I thought looked better than black, but my wife disagreed. I had sent a picture of my car to the owner of the hood company. When I called him to order he said he didn't think navy would work as my car is more purple, and would I like a sample of the purple fabric? I hadn't realised that was even available. As soon as I tried that against the car my wife said yes, that's the colour. I agreed. So purple it will be. I'm not bothered about keeping it completely original; a C5 is unlikely to be worth a huge amount in the foreseeable future, and being the Pace Car doesn't add much, if any, to the value in the UK. That said, I was clear with the trimmer that the seats will have to be exactly as per factory regarding which bits are what colour as they have to look right. My logic is that wheels and hood are easily replaced if someone wanted total originality in the future.

Exactly the same as mine, obviously. Except mine is an official Euro car so originally had the magnesium wheels (which I have stored) so mine never had the yellow wheels. I bought the Antera wheels from Adrian Dromey and I like them a lot more. I got the correct tyre sensors from Keith Beschi, so everything works as it should. I will be getting the Antera rims done in yellow at some point.

Well, got it all back together and dry assembled into a new shift console to check fit prior to replacing it in the car, together with my overhauled radio and centre instrument console (that now includes a working clock!).

Now I'll find out if I can remember where all those wires go......

Incidentally, I had to buy a new shifter console as my original was split in practically every place it could be......

I have to say I'm not impressed with the quality of the replacement - but that seems to be the case with a lot of 'new' parts these days. :(

Great job. Your wiring loom looks in really good nick, is it the original?
I think so Tim - it's certainly the one that came with the car, although Bubba has made some mods to include an aftermarket alarm. I haven't entirely sussed out what he's done yet but the majority is certainly stock.

I'd be inclined to it strengthen-up this and the parking brake console from the inside - perhaps a layer of 'glass matting and resin. They were weak and insubstansial evn when new. All these premusubly Urea based plastics seem to degrade over the years........

That rod is something I donโ€™t have on my car. Is it for bracing?
Yes, it's one of several braces behind the dash.....

My car is a '71 'vert and the AIM seems to suggest that these braces were fitted to 'verts only (model 19467), probably to prevent serious scuttle shake. Since your car is a Coupรฉ you won't have them.

PS Oneball has beaten me to it - 'verts only.

Ah I see thanks - I was wondering if there was an opposing brace on the drivers side, and how that would miss all the steering clobber.
