What have you done today

Had a great day at Silverstone courtesy of the `Car Natter` group that I link with . Dedicated parking in front of the British Racing Drivers Club with access to a reserved BRDC suite overlooking Brooklands and Nuffield curves : always a good spot observe the action ! Not such a big turn out of cars as at previous `Car Natter ` meets but an eclectic mix anyway from modern `Bullitt ` Mustang , Porche , BMW and a prestine Morris Marina in period `babies nappy ` livery just like the one I passed my driving test in so many years ago !!!
A great programme of races to fill the day with Bernies V8`s top of my list not to mention very entertaining Pick Up Truck Racing dominated by Ford and Vauxhall Pick Ups . Unfortunately there was no silverware picked up by any Corvettes in Bernies V8`s . However the Chevrolet Camaro Z28 driven by hard cornering Jake Swan was awesome . The guy is too talented by half , being 6 time championship winner , 4 time off shore power boat race winner and Super Light championship winner !!
The Sports Prototype and Sports 2000 races were full of close faught action too but the Production VW GTi was a bit of a yawn bless `em !!DSC_5190.JPGDSC_5189.JPGDSC_5187.JPGDSC_5293.JPGDSC_5292.JPGDSC_5291.JPG

I thought Roger’s Corvette centre was closed as of the 15th April due to Roger’s retirement .
It did! I asked on their FB page if the cars were going to remain on show somewhere local and David wrote me a personal message and very kindly offered to make themselves available one day so I could have a private viewing of the cars. Extremely generous of them! I’m going to take along a few little club bits for them. I had ordered a couple of CCCUK caps for them but the cap machine was seemingly broken so my order got cancelled. Nevermind

I’m not the only one who isn’t a fan of the Darth Vader tribute then Ross? Or was it the LT-1 hood on a 69?! 😂
No not really....more to the point that it was all very reminiscent of a UK show.... So not quite correct vehicles (which are otherwise good in all other respects) and perhaps questionable 'interpretations' of owners individual tastes or preferences.

The Pick Up`s were a hoot and the Sports 2000 and Sports Prototypes produced some very closely contested racing with only 3 tenths of a second separating the fastest lap times in Sports 2000 .DSC_5286.JPGDSC_5283.JPGDSC_5333.JPGDSC_5333.JPGDSC_5335.JPGDSC_5236.JPGDSC_5227.JPGDSC_5226.JPGDSC_5225.JPGDSC_5331.JPG

The highs and lows of motorsport ! This guy was running a blistering race in second place and seriously challenging the leader until the penultimate lap when his car developed rear wheel steering coming into Brooklands curve . The right hand rear wishbone sheered causing the drive shaft to come out of the hub ... game over !!DSC_5325.JPGDSC_5321.JPGDSC_5260.JPG

Here’s Roger Judski with his 1969 ZL1 corvette. Certainly the most valuable C3 corvette, and certainly one of the most valuable of all corvettes.
I’ve seen it many times over the last 30 odd years. Hopefully it will still be available to see somewhere after Roger’s retirement and the closure of Roger’s corvette centerIMG_3500.jpeg

I absolutely love the ZL1 front stripe. Had it put on a couple of C3’s over the years. A aftermarket one is available although not exact, it looks very good once on.
Here’s the original in Roger’s showroom

Not much else to do on a wet and miserable Easter Monday so I finally finished off the C1 build project DSC_5349.JPGDSC_5356.JPGDSC_5354.JPGDSC_5353.JPGDSC_5352.JPG today complete with working steering and tilt up seats . At least it stopped me piging out on chocolate eggs ! Well almost !

Speaking with Roger and David Jr today, once the showroom is vacated in the next couple of months, the cars will be tucked away and won’t be on show to the public anymore. ☹️

That’s a shame, but I thought as much. There’s probably many people wondering what will happen to such a valuable car. Collectors will be keeping a close eye on proceedings me thinks.

A day of intense activity in the BIG TOYS box today with the finishing touches be applied to our loco D6535 in readiness for the three day Diesel Gala Event that starts tomorrow . Four of us members of the 5305 Locomotive Association with much needed assistance from the Great Central Railway engineering staff team to meet the deadline were applying the final detailing of paintwork , fitting the last few bits of replacement wood paneled cab flooring along with fitting the last few cover plates to various access points in the controls console of the drivers `desk` . Tomorrow her 1550 hp engine will be fired up in anger to haul trains for the first time in almost 5 years .
All this activity was to the back beat of 5 other locos from the diesel fleet being fired up on test and having their `Fitness To Run ` exams in preparation for the three day intensive passenger service of the gala . Top prize for sheer volume had to go to Class 55 " Deltic" 55019 `Royal Highland Fusilier ` when its two 18 cylinder Napier "Delitic " configuration ( basically a triangle of cylinder banks ) with its 3,300bhp . The distinct reverb from the engines can be felt through your head , ears and chest !
Top prize for fumes and smoke went to the Class 50 2,700 bhp English Electric 50035 `Ark Royal ` . These diesel particular engines are not fitted with pre- heaters so the cold start cranking produces vast clouds of exhaust smoke that would put a steam loco to shame ! I know DSCF3807.JPGDSCF3811.JPGDSCF3816.JPGDSCF3818.JPGDSCF3802.JPGDSCF3810.JPGDSCF3806.JPGDSCF3814.JPGwhich I prefer any day . 😁
