A 21-year-old Corvette driver in Virginia has the dubious distinction of setting the fastest speed ever clocked by the Leesburg, Virginia Police Department.
Luke Jones of Leesburg came roaring past an officer going 88 mph ABOVE the legal limit in his blue 2007 Corvette coupe on Virginia Route 7 near Battlefield Parkway just before 5 p.m. on May 11.
The officer clocked the Corvette at a whopping 133 mph in a 45 mph zone which Leesburg police spokesman Michael Drogin says to his knowledge is the fastest speed a driver has ever been charged by the department.
We thought that it went without saying, however last week one of our officers had to remind a motorist that traveling 133 mph in a 45 mph zone is NEVER acceptable!
Generally, speeding is treated as a traffic offense, but Jones faces a mandatory appearance in court on a more serious misdemeanor criminal charge of reckless driving by speed.
The department said about the incident:

Remember, we all play a part in #TrafficSafety. PLEASE drive at the posted speed limit! #SlowDown
