A small electric problem...

Hi folks - first post since joining. I was finally persuaded to join at the NEC classic car show. I have had my 1978 for about 15 years now and have had a small electrical issue that has been bugging me for a while, lets see if the hive mind can suggest a cure - or fault find.

My dash lights and cluster work for a few trips and then the fuse will pop. There is no pattern to it. The fuse might last 1 or 2 trips in the car or 10-20, but eventually the 5 amp fuse will pop.. I had the dash out a while ago and found no shorts on the board.

Any ideas??

Hi, Welcome to the Club!

I know it won't make a huge difference, but I notice that the GM Troubleshooting Manual states that its a 6 amp fuse.... You're lucky to have a supply of those tiny fuses!

I don't suppose you do anything different, like change the brightness of the lamps? One the lamps concerned is the shifter indicator panel and there a few "moving parts' under the centre consols that could perhaps be touching the wires for that - handbrake, the shifter itself etc...
