The MOT manual states that a vehicle in use before 1st Sept 1965 can have flashing red indicators in the red rear lights . Strictly speaking later vehicles and US imports should have orange rear indicators . Mine still has red and has passed 5 MOT`s since I have owned it , it all depends on the testers approach to classic cars I guess .Quick question. Do all indicators have to have orange lenses or just orange bulbs? And can rear indicators just be red flashing like in america?

Otherwise indicators should be either clear lenses and orange bulbs or orange lenses . What do you have ? After all it must have a UK MOT .
Ok, you still have the worst part to do yet then getting the old ones outNot quite, the crusty old ones are still on there......

Yes James. If you’ve got a MOT for the car, it’s passed.I guess mine passed then.
Like how well does your handbrake work? Even when actually functional I wonder how many meet MoT standards? Mine was totally inoperative when I bought the car and although I've got it to work after a fashion, I very much doubt it would pass MoT inspection. That said, my car did come with a valid MoT done just before I bought it - with no handbrake!MOT's are one thing - road legality is another. Bottom line and irrespective of whether an mot pass or not is still the fact that in the UK (on vehicles manufactured after 1965) rear indicators should show amber (not red) and fronts should also be amber (not white). As to whether you'll get a 'tug' from the old bill is another matter. Kinda think that if plod was going to give you a 'pull' and really wanted to find something wrong indicators would be the least of your problems.
I think nearly all automatic yanks have been used in that way, once it’s in park that’s it. Have virtually never used the parking brake on my 65. On one of the rare occasions I did use it I forgot it was on, and off I went. Ruined it. Sorted it out many moons later and can’t remember if I’ve used it since. Certainly not in the last 10 years or so. Once in park it’s parked. Its generally auto's that have the dodgy handbrakes - 'park' position on selector is used in preference to handbrake which falls in to disrepair....
The old bill couldn`t catch a cold these days , never mind pull you over for red indicators ! They haven`t got the resources to catch real offenders as too busy dealing paper work and the PC brigade . You see far worse infingements on the road every day .MOT's are one thing - road legality is another. I never use the park or handbrake, as a part time waxer my car only goes to car meets/shows/occasional fun drives so i tend to park on level ground or level in the garage.I think nearly all automatic yanks have been used in that way, once it’s in park that’s it. No I don’t. I bet I know where he will be if not tomorrow ( as it’s thanksgiving) but probably fri/sat/sun. The Daytona turkey run is on. 4 days of cars and swap meet. A great time will be had by all.I never use the park or handbrake, as a part time waxer my car only goes to car meets/shows/occasional fun drives so i tend to park on level ground or level in the garage.
Side note : very long shot Nassau65 do you know Kirby Carpenter from Daytona way, he has been into Vettes for 50+ years having owned mainly C2's and C3's I bought his wife's C3
ine definitely fits in the suspect / dodgy catagory !Handbrakes on early corvettes ( C1 2 3) are very suspect at the best of times. I’ve had some that are great and others that have been terrible/non existent. Most have been bloody terrible. If you have got one that works, if you happen to drive off without taking it off it then becomes useless. I know that from experience.
More often than not yes, it’s in park.ine definitely fits in the suspect / dodgy catagory !Being an auto it is always left in park .
I hate you, I have only been twice in the 30+ times of visiting Florida, last time 3 years ago possibly the greatest show on this earth. No I don’t.
