Twasn't me Chuffer - the welding is Uncle Sams original best.
That`s just as well then , spot welding is one thing but spotting the weld is an entirely different ball game ! Damned good job that the US Liberty ships were welded together better than that or they wouldn`t have made it across a boating lake never mind the Atlantic .

Quick question. Do all indicators have to have orange lenses or just orange bulbs? And can rear indicators just be red flashing like in america?

The MOT manual states that a vehicle in use before 1st Sept 1965 can have flashing red indicators in the red rear lights . Strictly speaking later vehicles and US imports should have orange rear indicators . Mine still has red and has passed 5 MOT`s since I have owned it , it all depends on the testers approach to classic cars I guess .
Otherwise indicators should be either clear lenses and orange bulbs or orange lenses . What do you have ? After all it must have a UK MOT .

Yes James. If you’ve got a MOT for the car, it’s passed.
It does depend on the individual examiner re the passing of rear red indicators, Some will some won’t. I’ve personally never had a problem with a car passing with them.

MOT's are one thing - road legality is another. Bottom line and irrespective of whether an mot pass or not is still the fact that in the UK (on vehicles manufactured after 1965) rear indicators should show amber (not red) and fronts should also be amber (not white). As to whether you'll get a 'tug' from the old bill is another matter. Kinda think that if plod was going to give you a 'pull' and really wanted to find something wrong indicators would be the least of your problems.

Like how well does your handbrake work? Even when actually functional I wonder how many meet MoT standards? Mine was totally inoperative when I bought the car and although I've got it to work after a fashion, I very much doubt it would pass MoT inspection. That said, my car did come with a valid MoT done just before I bought it - with no handbrake! :(

Handbrakes on early corvettes ( C1 2 3) are very suspect at the best of times. I’ve had some that are great and others that have been terrible/non existent. Most have been bloody terrible. If you have got one that works, if you happen to drive off without taking it off it then becomes useless. I know that from experience.

Its generally auto's that have the dodgy handbrakes - 'park' position on selector is used in preference to handbrake which falls in to disrepair....

I think nearly all automatic yanks have been used in that way, once it’s in park that’s it. Have virtually never used the parking brake on my 65. On one of the rare occasions I did use it I forgot it was on, and off I went. Ruined it. Sorted it out many moons later and can’t remember if I’ve used it since. Certainly not in the last 10 years or so. Once in park it’s parked.

I know quite a few local guys in Clearwater who use the reverse lockout as a parking brake. Done it quite a few times myself on the rare occasion I drive a manual.

The old bill couldn`t catch a cold these days , never mind pull you over for red indicators ! They haven`t got the resources to catch real offenders as too busy dealing paper work and the PC brigade . You see far worse infingements on the road every day . ☹️

I never use the park or handbrake, as a part time waxer my car only goes to car meets/shows/occasional fun drives so i tend to park on level ground or level in the garage.
Side note : very long shot Nassau65 do you know Kirby Carpenter from Daytona way, he has been into Vettes for 50+ years having owned mainly C2's and C3's I bought his wife's C3

On the subject of inidicators , I was over at the workshop today fixing a broken connection to the Vettes off side front indicater ( orange glass of course ! ) plus a few other fettling jobs . The workshop is now more like Team BMW headquarters now an E30 has arrived for my mate to recommission after a 2 year lay up by its owner . It now rubs shoulders with the E34 and E36 belonging to the home team guys along with their F2 cars . Plus an Escort Cossie has arrived for a rebuild , but the highlight was helping my mate lift the body panels of the Spice Group C car and connect up a Kenlow heat pump to warm the engine up for its first firing in ages . It is going up for sale in the new year by brokerage in France ready for a new European Group C race series that is being introduced and my mate has got to carry out a £30,000 recommission as part of the deal . Hopefully we will see Group C back at Silverstone Classic soon like in the good old days . My ears are still bleeding from the fire -up ! Like and AC / DC gig turned up to 15 !! :eek:DSCF2802.JPGDSCF2797.JPGDSCF2800.JPGDSCF2799.JPGDSCF2805.JPGDSCF2803.JPG

No I don’t. I bet I know where he will be if not tomorrow ( as it’s thanksgiving) but probably fri/sat/sun. The Daytona turkey run is on. 4 days of cars and swap meet. A great time will be had by all.

I hate you, I have only been twice in the 30+ times of visiting Florida, last time 3 years ago possibly the greatest show on this earth.
To any forum members reading this - you have not lived until you do a Turkey Run. And if you do have the pleasure of going make sure you take a sensible adult as you could end up buying a car...:)
also if you like choppers then you could combine with Daytona bike week
Even my wife who hates cars and bikes loved it all
