What have you done today

As it was bright and sunny ( for the most part ) today I took the C3 for spin now the manifold gaskets have been replaced and it is now running sweet with no annoying `tickety tapping` noises from the left bank manifold . Ended up using it as emergency assist vehicle to drive up county with coil spring compressors and an impact driver kit after a panic call from my grandson to say he had broken front spring on his 10 year old Mini One . At least it gave the old girl a good run .

Broken springs is a common problem on modern cars, usually just the first coil snaps and the driver is none the wiser until an mot inspector finds it. I don’t know if it’s due to spring quality, stiffer springs, low profile tyres, the number of potholes or a combination of all.

Indeed it is a common problem and usually down to spring quality , especially as manufacturers insist on the easy out way of things and crop the ends of the coils when forged in straight cut and not a shamfered cut . This causes a stress point at the much smaller area of contact with the suspension cup which then work hardens the lower part of the first coil and it finally cracks and snaps through . I have known it to happen on non low profile tyres but certainly the crap state of our roads doesn`t help.

Done it before with Remington razors and found it pretty interesting. That was a male model and so is this one

Hope the shoot goes well and you blag some freebies out of them . I did a few photo shoots on the steam locos over the years past plus filming for Midlands Today TV and an American film crew . Loads of faffing about with camera angles , sound recordings , lighting and double takes . By far the worst experience was a whole day filming a BBC Top Gear feature on great British Sports Car marques when I had my Marcos . We were all treated like sh*t and most of it ended up on the cutting room floor . When the programme finally aired you missed my car and many others if you blinked !!!

Well just over 8 hours that didn't get off to the best start when they turned up 30 minutes late at 9:30. Wouldn't you think they would be on time early Sunday morning when you're going out of your way for them?

Still it went well and should make for some great photo's and a video. Bloody knackered now

Ah photoshoots. Fun experience, but the only one I did was for Autotrader. Drove my C3 up to them, using a lot of V8 fuel I didn't get re-imbursed for, they said in advance. I didn't mind, it was going to be fun filming etc.
On the day, starter motor plays up, get it started though eventually.
Get to the place just before filming time. They then faff round and go to lunch - I could have turned up much later.
Anyway, they film with the actor and take photos and lots of other stuff. All good.... except..... the only bit of footage used was a close up of the actor in the car, through the windscreen. So you can't tell what car he is driving or anything. They may as well have just put him in a Vectra and filmed him for 2 seconds.

Waste of a day off work for me, money, and a lot of time and concern that I was going to be stranded because of my starter. At least with the film crew we could push start it (manual), but if it cut out on the way there or back then I would be stuffed.

Still, it was interesting to see how these things get filmed etc, seeing behind the scenes etc.

Been asked a few times over the last 45 years or so for various things as we have always had various yanks either our own or for sale. Always said thank you but no. The filming people always wanted it their own way, no expenses ever paid. No than you.
Only once did I give in for a friend who asked for a few cars for the opening of the “Hollywood “ cinema in Wood Green. Gave him my 60 in classics red with white coves and my 65, along with a 70’s Lincoln Continental MK4 for a serious yank tank. We got gas money and a free lunch and some freebie cinema tickets.
He ( my friend) got all the credit and scored a lot of brownie points with the company.

did one with Remington razors maybe 2016 and they paid me £500 back then, provided lunch and gave me some of the products - men's groomer type things. Interesting watching it play out but long-winded and quite boring after they do the same shot 20 times
