Well done Corvette (y). JonnyC4 great photos (y). Chevrolet more great photos (y)

Hi (Roscobbc name edited) the reason why I thought you may recognise the location, you found it easy to recognise Chadwell Heath without any significant land marks to help so you had to have local knowledge.
I knew the other Corvette was in the photo but because you mentioned it, it got my little cogs spinning, and last night I had a vague recollection of a photo of that other Corvette.

It was bugging me so this morning I looked in my first car photo album and found the photo, for some reason it was out of order, it should have followed the two C2 photos, I don’t seem to have a front view, but that could be my 35mm film ran out, or as some of us oldies remember, how often the most important shot taken did not come out, nothing like these great digital cameras.

Location as Corvette recognised A12 Eastern Ave London bound, across the junction of Ley St and Horns Rd, passing on the right before the junction the great and now gone, The Green Gate a Wheatley Tavern (Owned by Bobby Wheatley, show business impresario) now a McDonalds

Across the Junction first left is Cranley Drive and on the corner is MNS motors can’t be the same company surely, that is where I took the photographs, and across the road Burton Performance Centre Ltd for you Ford petrol heads.

The reason I thought you may recognise the location, Gants Hill bound you can see an office block in the distance, and Southend End bound B&Q, no such clues in Chadwell Heath.

You said pointing the wrong way, they were on a corner plot so the dealer would find it very easy point his stock each way, plus driving down the Eastern Ave he had them pointing the right way to view when driving past.

As this club is full of petrol heads, a lot of you will remember the name Barry Lee,
(As a Team Ford Rally/Rally Cross works driver he not only built the cars but won the championship) I assumed he built them at The Coventry Service Station Horns Rd Barkingside, (the reason for adding) Barry’s cars were always there.

I could not recall Barry’s first name so I rang my brother who remembered, my brother told me had meet Barry Lee at Lydden Hill Race Circuit, my brother was doing his Ford apprenticeship at the Ford apprentice school Harold Wood, they had built Barry a V8 Transit possibly a Chrysler V8 engine, it was to race against a Ford Escort and a Mini, he can’t remember if it was a proper race but the video was made to promote the Ford Transit at the commercial motor show.

I don’t know if anyone can locate that video, I can’t find it, it was used on a Transit special on Top Gear many years ago, I have never seen it, but of course whenever it is aired my brothers knows the Transit.

Below was meant for Daytona Vette.

Nolan Adams is a well-known US Corvette author but sadly I have never meet him.

Hi Chevrolet you are so good on computers, can you please post the Nolan Adam’s Corvette Hall of Fame video on the post. (y)

Yes, think I remember that one Ross. Very nice looking/low miles C4 on Ebay now (with old CCCUK sticker in rear window). Listed as a Geiger, but suspect that's just the Geiger supplied dealers sticker on the back?

Or a Corvette sold by them in Germany, but there is no body kit on from them.

I am only learning, I want to learn more, you are the Master Frank - Apart from the wheels which I did not give much thought to, thinking they were standard issue, ie not the option alloy cast knock ons, I cheating, with the help of the Black Boook, put it at 65 because of the no Hood emblems - What identified it as a 66 and what if no option is taken, is the difference in in the standard wheels, are they not all the Rally type for 65, 66 and 67?

I too am learning, too much to learn. 66 has hood emblem.65 no hood emblem. Car has a BB hood but no 427 emblems on front fender so what size motor is powering it?
standard wheels for 63 to 66 are KH steels with full size hubcaps. 67 was the first year with rally’s with centre caps rather than C3 deep rally caps. Camaro also had these small centre caps but corvette ones have Disc Brakes molded on them. When your car went to paint it wore 67 15x6 rally’s. Half the width your car has now.

Yes Jonny, exactly what I was thinking. As you can see from Geiger's website, they do (did) have a "Tuning Shop." But no mention of engine upgrade(s) in the ad, or photo of the engine, so like you presume it's a "stock car" they sold back then? And as you say, no bodykit.

Hi Chevrolet you are so good on computers, can you please post the Nolan Adam’s Corvette Hall of Fame video on the post. (y)

Afternoon Funchi/ What's the mileage on the C5 today? Good on computers? Not me! As requested,

Shouldn't have sent me over to CorvetteMuseum on YouTube though. Just found your next car, after selling the TR6 & C5. You might be a bit too young for it though?

Have you seen this UK C3?

Chevrolet so quick again thank you (y)

C5 mileage that's easy it has not changed for years 2778

Which one the C8, it would not fit in my garage to narrow, I have to fold in the C5 wing mirrors and then roll it into the garage, to young, more like to bloody old No not seen the C3 but have seen the odd Tom Falconer video like this.

No not me Funchi my "twenty" is the Midlands - you have me mixed up, it is an age thing and you are multi posting multi responders at speed, you need to have a sit down and a cup of tea and then start posting pics on the "Morgan" site, the price of cheese has gone up, and it is taking me a day to walk a week backwards, who are you anyway?

Sorry Daytona Vette me very good thanks, some idiot has put so many posts on here (O that would be me) I have lost my marbles, the location was directed at Roscobbc the club chairman who must live near me.

I would have thought Roscobbc may have spotted my error, I will edit my mistake, so don't go think you have lost your marbles.

Yeah I recognise the Green Gate - being a Wheatley Pub they would show many a rock band there as I recall - also entertainers - saw the late Mike Read there in the earlier part of his career. Half a mile eastbound and you had what was in the mid/late 60's the Mecca destination for all things scooter - Eddie Grimsteads.

Hi Roscobbc yet another coincidence, my father and I rented a very small work shop from Eddie Grimstead an old bakery I think.

The address was 1A Park Ave Barking I am sure you will remember, Park Ave was the first right after Barking park going to the station, and opposite The T-Bone Steak house, Eddie had showrooms on both corners and opposite Park Ave, we always thought Eddie would like to demolish the building to put more cars on.

I think Eddie's father may have started the business with the bicycle and motor bike shop on The Barking Road, and you will remember Eddie opened a very large two story showroom on the London Rd very near Cottons park Romford.

1994 New York, Long Island, Montauk, Niagara Falls, and Boston.

In 1994 it was cheaper to fly to the USA and buy C3 brake calipers.

A lot of C3 owners would have had the leaking caliper problem.

Soon after I purchased my 1980 Corvette in 1985 I tried to beat the problem, some will know brake fluid is hydroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air) this will lead to pitting of the piston bores and leaking calipers.

I changed my brake fluid for Silicone brake fluid non hydroscopic, piston rubbers and seals etc, unfortunately this was not a life time cure.

I decide to go to the USA and buy stainless steel re sleeved calipers and a master cylinder, and combine it with a holiday.

I thought I was going to ask an almost impossible question, the memory is a funny thing.

I am going to post a picture of a building where I purchased my brakes, I could not remember the company name, the sign above the door I could not read, so was going to ask if anyone could help.

By now you know I am not all the ticket, but even I was not going to search for a name, (what move 264 Corvette Fever issues and 379 Vette issues just to try and find a name)

I thought it would be good to post pictures of the Corvette magazines available years ago for members who do not know about them, I was only going to post the last issue, not the first issue I had purchased, no reason to.

I could not seem to find my Keepin Track of Vettes magazines, I assumed they must be behind either my Corvette Fever shelf or my Vette shelf, so I first removed my Corvette Fever magazines but no luck, but I did have the bright idea to look in the oldest issues to see if I could find the company name and bingo about 4 issues in there advert. Genuine Classic Brakes and you can see the logo matched.

I then removed my Vette magazines still no luck so I looked elsewhere and found Keepin Track of Vettes, but I had also found the name.

You will see how cheap there products are, and even paying their core deposit they were cheap, know way was I taking my old calipers with me to the USA.

I nearly had a heart attack, when I put them in my suit case I could not pick it up I had to go out and buy an army surplus holdall, still in my loft, I put the calipers in the holdall and the master cylinder in my suit case.

Get this I had 5 litres of Silicone Brake Fluid in my hand luggage, the air hostess was not happy, but when I told her the airline miniatures were more dangerous she was happy, now you can’t even take a bottle of water through.

The only reason I went as far as Montauk near the end of Long Island, someone must have told me how beautiful it was, (the memory is a funny thing) the reason I wrote that above is, in Montauk there was a lovely dock and I could remember that name, Gosmans Dock with no problem, and it had a lovely fish restaurant on stilts, and all the other buildings you would expect on a working dock.

Very sad to see the Twin Towers.
Just edited 21.22. I thought I had finished for the day, but on LBC tonight, the day I posted the picture of the Twin Towers, New York have announced the terrible statistic more people have now died in total from Covid 19 in New York than on 9/11.

Funchi mentioned something about a Chrysler V8 powered Transit. Ford's transit based Supervan with its mid mounted Gurney Eagle FoMoCo small block engine was the talk of the racing scene in the very early 70's spawning some later and more exotic powered marques of the van. Reason why I'm mentioning here is that it ended-up in the front drive of a house in Suttons Lane Hornchurch less its engine with the new owner telling me he was intending to make it road legal with an engine and transmission now out of a GT40. Don't know what happened to it.
