There are several conversion kits available to provide electric door actuation though they all seem to be around the $1k mark which seems pretty expensive. I'm guessing you're hoping to do something for considerably less? Do you have to have a working door on a race car?

The door is going to be fixed. Probably angled slightly and a bit cut out of it. The door doesn’t need to open and close but being Britain working wipers are quite useful!

Flares trial fitted.

And marked up for cutting.


No turning back now




And bonded on.

Finger pulled out, slightly. Fibreglass filled the front flares.

Sanded back and fibreglass mat over the seams, made an effort to be much neater than the rear which took a lot of sanding before filler.

There’s some to do on the rear too now I’ve put the doors back in.

Started smoothing out the flares with filler, I find bodywork very tedious hence the slow progress

Almost there with the flares I think! Will need to do the body seam but that’ll wait till doors are gapped.

Hood isn’t quite the same curve as the wings, especially noticeable on the driver’s side but for a race car it’s pretty good.

That hood stay is resting on a mighty tidy firewall. Is the firewall original it looks super clean.

Cleaned and given a coat of black paint.

Result, mines got so many layers of satin black on it it needs a kango to chip it all off.

Wiper mounts on in preparation for a dry fit of the screen and sorting out how to modify the wiper door

Have a look at 3m underseal to spray in the wiper tray area, leaves a really nice rubberised crinkle finish that seals any leaks.

Thanks, I sealed it all prior to paint using seam sealer and have sealed the fixings as I’ve attached them.

Wiper door now modified so it’s fixed and the wipers clear. Trimmed the rear of the door itself then made two brackets to hold it to the edge of the wings and some alloy spacers to take account of the clearance gap that normally exists.
