Electric Radiator Fans

Anyone fitted an electric rad fan to their C3 instead of the engine driven one?

If so what have you used and how have you wired it?

No I am thinking just the twin fans, relays and the sender, mine is wired so also comes on when the AC is switched on. but thinking you will not be running AC somehow

Cheers. Yep no AC but you might be surprised to know most modern closed race cars do run AC. They’re almost all power limited and ballasted anyway so there’s no real disadvantage. Your average historic race Corvette is probably 50 to 150 bhp (300 in some cases) up on a C7 GTE car and about 100kg lighter.

The Greenwood cars were 40mph faster down the Mulsanne straight in 1976 than the C7s were in 2019.

You probably know there are retro fit controllers that run fan(s) at variable speeds according to conditions like modern cars. Always good to fit separate toggle switch inside if you think your temp guage is showing too warm

Didn’t know. Thanks. Will look at those.

Some of the 'privateers' were timed at 200 mph+ on the Mulsanne straight during the early 70's

I'm sure I saw them in Summit...not cheap. I had issues keeping my 440 built mopar cool. Looked at everything timing, fan shroud , water pump flow, fan spacers , ally rads etc etc. In the end I got a Champion 3 or 4 core and a used merc fan and shroud from a scrappers. The fan draws 50amp max on start up so needed a big alternator as well. The controller you program up yourself and has 3 lights to show the speed its running. Does the job. Let me know if you need me to dig out a link though its kinda made for Mopars with 26 inch rads

No disrespect for guys running twin electric fans but factory fan & shroud if fitted and working properly is quite a formidable piece of kit (I repeat - if installed and used correctly)

Just going to run a single electric fan, the only reason to not run the standard is that’s it’s not needed almost all the time on a race car as airflow is sufficient without a fan.

I've yet to be convinced that the CFM numbers of aftermarket fans match-up to the OEM unit - problem being that GM didn't seem to publish factory CFM of fans - whereas aftermarket makers do.....

One thing I'm not happy about on C3's ... brakes or maybe lack of them... maybe its just me..
Not just you Mike - me too - brakes earn the description 'brakes' (like they kinda slow the car down.......kinda) its just that they don't really make the grade compared with most current vehicles......
