I know most of our Vettes are of old manufacture and Technology, but speaking for a C3, I know what would happen if I was following a 458 or even a 911 down the motorway at 70 mph at a normally safe distance, if they needed to brake full on, I could not stop in time, I would have to leave more distance and hence you may be able to stop quickly and lock the brakes, but the brakes of a C3 are no match for some later vehicles.

And that is exactly where I'm coming from - TBH I like the non-power brakes - the increased effort required to use them is commensurate with the effort to change gear and possibly steering effort. Also I don't have the worry of have a coughing or sneezing fit whilst applying brakes and inadvertedly locking them-up (its an 'age' thing )

I must confess I really didn't like my Corvette's normal brakes. Don't get me wrong, I've driven a few cars with normal brakes and I like them too because of the greater feel and effort etc. But my Corvette just didn't seem right - maybe the master cylinder, or even the bleeding of the brakes, was at fault on my system. But for me, I hated driving the Vette with MY Vette's normal brakes. For me, the power brake retrofit makes it now feel like what I thought it should be - much better braking, but still with a good amount of feel and effort required.

On the flip side, BEFORE the retrofit of the power brakes, some other (short than me) people drove the Vette and said that the brakes are good and they had the wheels locking up etc. So maybe it was down to me being of the tall side, as I know I had issues getting my foot over onto the brake pedal to apply force. Now, with the power brakes, the pedal is fractionally lower down, so that combined with the brake booster seems to allow me to better brake in the car.
