Future C3 Owner Questions

Yes, they look so nice today, very elegant. Back in the 80’s chrome was old hat, everyone wanted 1974 and upwards with the body colour front and back. The old chrome bumpers were out of fashion and hard to sell.
now, they are a hot ticket item. Bargains are slowly disappearing.
It wasn't unusual to see an accident damaged chrome bumper Vette 'updated' with later panels......was a thing with 70's Firdbird's of the day.

Yes, people are putting on 1970-73 Bull nose fronts onto later firebirds to give them an earlier appearance. The bull nose front is all the rage. It’s funny how things go round, old hat suddenly becomes the in thing.

Chrome is so dated now, it just looks so good. Something that all cars had, chrome bumpers suddenly went away ( well over a good few years) and now chrome bumpers are possibly a thing of beauty.
I personally think the corvette done the change from chrome bumpers to rubber body colour “bumpers” very well. The car still looked great from the front or back.
the buying public thought so as well. Sales increased every year.

what’s not to like.

Containerisation is great, not always as safe from damage as you think it is. I once had cars in my container ie it wasn’t shared, only my vehicles. When it was opened I was there, it was packed solid with other items. When I asked what all this stuff was, the reply was “we don’t ship air”
Some people are put off by Roll on/Roll off, but there is nothing wrong with it, and cars are perfectly safe. As I said before that’s how all our luxury brands send there cars all over the world.
I wouldn't recommend a container.
Roro is the lesser of the two evils. There is a marked difference between how a Rolls is treated with incredible care, and how a personal import is abused, but there is no other option.

One of the reasons those front and rear bumpers went away is the feds mandated to reduce injuries in crashes that the front/rear had to get
more design in that forced nameplates to add stronger structure which pre-1974 did not have and in doing so the chrome bumpers had to go

This was also done to better protect the gas tank blowing up in rear end crashes

Something we just take for granted these days. 🤔🙈

Yes, but in doing so it is a real pain in the ass to work with Corvette fuel tanks

Starting with the C5s, GM went with 2 plastic like 9 gallon tanks that are mounted low and then are connected with a transfer tube
Each tank has a fuel pump and float
Due to damage done by that fricking Ethanol like ruining the gas level electronics in the tank or even the pumps

I changed the left tank's fuel pump, the SOB is like 16 inches long and lay sideways

To get this sucker out and the float at the same time you either have to take the left rear suspension out, that means when done have to do a wheel alignment or as I did lots of swearing and snuck it out with just 2 inches of free space to get it out and then fight a new one in :(
Now imagine if you also had to do the same thing on right side pump :(

Worse starting with the C6s the tanks are mounted high and to do any internal tank repairs or gas leaks on ends of transfer tube you have to
take the whole ass end out to get to the fuel system ! :(

The only convertible I have ever even liked is the C3, no other car at all and I love both roof options equally on it. 👍😎
Totally agree. The C3 looks good either as a coupe or a convertible. The added bonus of the T-Top ( what a great design feature that was) on the coupe makes it nearly a convertible

I’m not a fan of the t top, despite the fact I’ve got one. I much prefer a proper convertible. My Tuscan was the same, they just lack something that you get with a proper vert.

Ah there we differ.
In my TVR days, both were a different breeds of Cerbera as I love a coupe. 4.2 followed by a fabulous 4.5.

Loved them, but I left for a Corvette and have not looked for anything else since despite getting to drive all kinds of sports cars along the way.

I bleed Corvette. 😎👍

You think the guys on the docks treat a rolls any different from anything else.? They don’t . Period. The only people who treat
a rolls different are the guys that deliver them to the port.
seen it with my own eyes countless times

The corvette T-Top coupe was great for the northern states that suffer bad winters. When new C3’s we’re just another (in most cases)an everyday car. Left out in all weather. The Coupe was a much better bet for winter than a convertible.
Buyers soon appreciated the appeal of the coupe as convertible sales fell and fell.
but yes, convertibles rule.
T-Tops are nice, convertibles are Nicer.

It would be interesting to compare owners comments on early C3 coupe's (with removeable rear window) and later car with a fixed rear window. For me I prefer the coupe with removeable rear window......my roofs and rear window are more or less permanently 'off' as soon as the weather warms up. I like the reduced level of buffeting that removing the rear window offers (and the 'enhanced' sound track you leave behind and hear a little better)
