Interesting they specifically note "TOYOTA AURIS HYBRID EXCEL AUTO." ...........so its only that specific variant/model that is being 'nicked'..........are we to presume that other trim/versions of the same car are not being nicked? ...........no offence relating to your choice of vehicle (and no doubt its quite a sound one)........but who would want to steal an Auris........hybrid batteries? - export to a third world country?
Hmm , must be the increase in demand on the black market for certain colours of “velour” 🤣🤣👍

I was about to ask an insurance question as i will be insuring my C3 soon, 43 years old.
I called A Flux about 6 months ago for a quote on it and came back at £400, a lot towards what others pay at around £200. Although A Flux used to be great ,many years ago, now they seem the highest for all my quotes. I called them in hope to be happier if thats the worst.

Has it gone up so much recently. I f6ound it has pr some vehicles i have had in last 12 months.
I am just about to renew again with Peter S Taylor, now part of Howden group.........'68 C3 Coupe 8000cc modified. 74 years old, London based, agreed value £35K, with UK breakdown cover, up a few quid from last year @ £202.......reduced 3000 mile to 1500 mile and saved a tenner...ha!

My 1968 C3 had gone up a lot this year. Last year it was something like £149 and the renewal said £230 ish. So I ran them up and got it down to £195 I think. I'm mid 40s, 3k a year limit, and my C3 is hardly the power monster that Ross' car is (above) - merely a base 327ci/300hp model. Its also garaged, and I live out in the sticks in the south west.

Still miffed its gone up by almost £50.

I think “classic” insurance was too cheap for many years, and now the insurance companies have woken up to this fact. I wonder what the percentage of claims are for “classics”
It must be profitable as loads of companies do it nowadays.

I would imagine that "classic" claims are miniscule in comparison with other motor vehicle claims . Having said that I suppose at lot of classics are insured on an agreed valuation basis and not the rip off `trade ` valuations used by insurance companies for every day cars which would affect the premium I guess .

I've just had an interesting letter from LV who currently insure my unexciting but reliable Toyota Auris Hybrid Estate. Extract below...

"We’re writing to you to let you know that, unfortunately, we’ve had to make some changes to our underwriting approach for your vehicle type.
Over the past year, there’s been a rise in thefts of the TOYOTA AURIS HYBRID EXCEL AUTO. As a result, we’ve seen a large increase in the number and cost of claims we’ve received for these types of vehicles and have made the difficult decision to stop insuring them.
This means at your next renewal date on 03 August 2024, we won’t be able to offer you a renewal price."

I'm at something of a loss to understand what renders a Toyota Hybrid such a popular target for thieves? I suspect my forthcoming search for quotes from other insurers is likely to produce some unwelcome surprises....:(
Thefts of Toyotas gone up by circa 103% per this:
Drivers urged to keep car safe as one brand faces 500 percent rise in thefts

huge premium increases that you then give to new customers as introductory discounts.
Seem to remember that car insurers (since a couple of years (?)) are not allowed to give new customers better (introductory) rates/premiums than existing customers?

I think you sre right , Ok so I wonder what the thinking behind their pricing is. Do they think people will stay with them or move elsewhere. I move pianos where a huge percentage are return customers, people understand reasonable increases inline with rising overheads but if I tripled prices to my regular and valued clients , I know they would feel ripped off and go elsewhere and I wouldnt dream of doing it

So I've got two quotes this morning, both £300-£400 cheaper than my renewal. What's even worse is one of those is with the same underwriter who provided the £900 quote for my renewal!

Well done! (y) Like they say, truth is (sometimes) stranger than fiction?

Could members give me any recommendations for cheapest Insurance companies for 2019 C7....current Insurer is no longer insuring said car....no fault of owner.!!!
Not sure if they cover younger cars, but Hagerty have covered my C4 since I bought it in ‘96. Occasionally looked around but no one has bettered the price for the ‘Vette. You get a discount as club member.
Adrain Flux used to be good, but recently I haven’t got good prices from them on my other cars.
Admiral were best this year for my modern Jag XJR (Group 50).

Hi dan, I have been meaning to contact someone at adrian flux to try to get an explanation why my van insurance has suddenly more than trebled , with no explanation , no claims , accidents or convictions. And what justification could there possibly be for this . I received a notification that you were going to renew automatically, there was no figure given for cost of renewal , I only realised what I was being charged when I saw the amount you had taken via direct debit. What sort of underhand way of doing business is this, other than to rip off the loyal customers with huge premium increases that you then give to new customers as introductory discounts. What a terrible business model. Would you be able to look into this please .
Hi.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you have had with ourselves for your renewal.
If you wanted to PM me your details I can take a look into this for you.
Regards,
Dan.

I had a proper quote today for my 1981 Vette all standard car from Footman James. A dam site better than Adrian flux and more respectable. A Flux gave me £410. Footman was £269. Same cover
Ill still try other as only tried two as most were closed today after i got home from work.

Had my C4 insured with Footman James/Ageas for many years. Didn't even bother looking for other quotes at renewal times as they were so cheap. Time is money as they say.

LV having declined to offer to re-insure my Auris an extensive web search has finally found me insurance at £735 - more than double last years price of £324. Most quotes I found were well over £1k with one insurer wanting over £4k! Some of this is obviously due to my age, 82 and to having had a my fault accident last year (and owning the car thieves favourite, a Toyota Auris!?); nevertheless, insurance prices are definitely on the rise.

I need to use the 'Vette as my daily driver - no road tax, no MoT and £108 insurance.

I was wondering if they no longer wanted to insure you partly, or mainly, because of age but aren't going to tell you that? Someone was telling me that age 70 is when the premiums really start to shoot up due to that. Is that £735 after any NCB and who did you insure it with, if I may ask?

I am two years past that benchmark and my policies didn`t shoot up on my daily driver ( 5.7 litre V8 ) or the C3 .

They probably wouldn’t want to be caught up in the ageism thing

Actuarially your accident risk does increase after 70 and into your 80's and insurance companies are not normally coy about revealing that. In my case rather than quote me a prohibitive price LV were not prepared to insure my car at all, so I'm assuming all Auris owners with LV are in the same boat regardless of age.
The £735 policy is with 1st Central Insurance, fully comp with 9 years NCB and a total excess of £600.
