I remember that film, I think the car is a 1964, when they buy it off the lot, the salesman puts in 2 gallons of gas free. He’s all heart, probably not even 50 cents worth.
Used car salesman, you’ve got to love um.

A nice source of seeing old cars ( of course they were probably new at the time) is on TV. Some of the old shows have a real good selection.
Perry Mason is a good example, Perry a high priced lawyer always drives something nice, and his investigator usually drives a new Ford Thunderbird. Being a showpiece TV series the cars are usually convertibles.
Another good one for Chrysler products is the Beverley Hillibillies, the bank Manager usually has a top of the line Dodge convertible and his secretary another convertible.
The invaders is another great programme for 1960’s Fords.

Watched Dirty Harry Callahan in the `Enforcer ` for the upteenth time a few nights back on TV . Opening sequence was a guy in a yellow C3 convertable stopping in the vain hope of picking up a hot pant wearing babe . Loads of floating 1970`s barges wallowing about the San Francisco streets too . Always good fun playing spot the motors .

The guy in the yellow corvette really was 70’s man at the time. She blew him out as she was waiting for the van, he drove off in a huff.
Harry’s LTD looked lovely in blue poly with a white convertible top.
As you said lots of lovely 1970’s barges about.

I always like looking at the cars that were just parked up while filming. These were normally nothing to do with the production, they were just there parked up. Plenty of oldies at the time of the film we’re still being used as everyday transport.

The film dead man’s curve portrays the life/times of the singers Jan & Dean. Richard Hatch is Jan Berry. In his infamous crash, in the film he’s driving a convertible where as in real life he was driving a 1966 coupe. I suppose the convertible gave a better shot of him crashing into the parked truck on dead man’s curve.111C2D05-1760-45DE-823F-6D4C7F7F97B8.jpeg

Turn up the volume :)

With lyrics

Ahead of you is Dead Man's Curve, the site of many disastrous accidents from the late 1920s through the 1950s.
This curve was part of the original Route 66 that was constructed around Towanda in 1927.

Behind you to the east approximately 1/4 mile, you can see the original Route 66 pavement made from Portland cement. This 2-way road was only 16 feet wide, and the sharp curve made for very treacherous driving.
District 6 Illinois State Highway Police, or the "Full Grown Bears" as they were jokingly called, became a familiar sight patrolling this area.

Travelers from Chicago, unfamiliar with the road and accustomed to faster speeds, caused many of these accidents.
A house once located in front of you, just beyond the apex of the curve, was removed after a semi-trailer truck ran off the road,
knocking the house off its foundation.

Before this event, the homeowners had replaced the front porch on this house numerous times due to the damage from cars and trucks crashing into it.

Always liked Jan & Dean, along with the beach boys of course. Seen the film many times as I have it on VHS. Richard Hatch was great as Jan, and then Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica.
Loved the surfing sound, I’ve got a 1960,s board, pity I can’t surf tho.

How many times do we hear of Corvettes being sold off because "we needed a more practical car, one the whole family can enjoy"?
Does a growing family sound the death knell for the Corvette lifestyle?
While not exactly the most common solution to the Corvette family dilemma, Daniel's four-door '80 Corvette does fill the need for more seating.

Chevrolet had actually planned on making this family minded sports car at a rate of 40 per year, and to call it "Corvette America." It was designed by California Custom Coach in Pasadena. The one prototype and five production cars that were assembled were built by cutting two cars in half which, when mated together, extended the wheelbase of the vehicle by 30 inches.

Because of the economic climate of the time and the fact that a base-model Corvette sold for around $13,000, the $35,000 price tag of the four-door was deemed unaffordable. Only five production cars were built, each one custom designed for the buyer.

Singer Dorothy McGuire of the McGuire Sisters originally owned this car. Because of the customized doors, there is no provision for exterior door latches. Opening the door was achieved by punching in a code on the keypad on the driver-side windshield by the A-pillar. All the door latches operated electronically. Also, the rear window opens hatchback-style, an idea that would make it to production, although not for another two years, in the '82 Corvette.

This is believed to be the only surviving four-door production Corvette in existence. The others were destroyed in accidents and by neglect. Luckily, this car escaped the same fate by being in the hands of Corvette collector Mike Yager.
It now resides in Daniel's care. He does drive the car on occasion, but it boasts fewer than 15,000 miles on the odometer. While it can be argued whether a car this rare should be driven, you have to admit that the reason it's even in existence is to allow more people the thrill of riding around in a Corvette. Just so happens, they only need one parking space.

That’s always been the downfall of the two seater sports car. Two seats. Hence the slightly longer wheelbase to turn it into a 2+2. The original E-Type had the same thing done to it.
yes, most of the time the two rear seats in the 2+2 are pretty useless, really only for children, but they are there, allowing the owner to keep his sports car a Little while longer.

Here’s an unusual one I came across the other day, searching for something else. Looks like it’s got a Greenwood kit on it of sorts.
I like it, would prefer a different Color, but to my eyes it looks great.

The reality of two door convertibles/coupes is, yes they are two seater vehicles and therefore unsuited to carry a family. Oddly most two door coupes/convertibles marketed as 4, possibly 5 seater vehicles are very limited on rear seat passenger seat accomodation. If you are a driver of even average height and want to sit comfortably there will be insufficient room for rear seat passengers (even a young child) to fit in the back seats. So......many coupes, even 4 door saloons are not fit for purpose.
