No pulling power

I am thinking maybe a professional carb re - set up and a rolling road test might be a starting point .
I did the same with my 327/300hp and I was glad I did. Beforehand the 327 drove "ok", but stuttered a bit here and there. Had it setup on the rolling road and was told they had recovered over 50hp from the engine during rolling road and cleared up the stuttering. I went to pick it up and they asked me to test drive it before I accepted their changes, so they could fine tune it to me. I did so, and fork me backwards with a barge pole - the thing was much more lively and far more eager to pull than it did before.

A change of plan regarding a rolling road test as the earliest my local performance car centre with a rolling road could not fit me in until 19th July !! The car is now at an American Car and Drag Racing specialist only a few miles away that I didn`t know existed . Had a chat with them and got a good feeling about the guys . They have years of experience and Chevy`s are their speciality . They build engines and have an engine dyno but no rolling road .They called this morning to say that the timing was "well out" and after setting it up , a test drive showed an improvement as you would expect but still hesitant and unsmooth on puck up . The Holley 750cfm that came on the car was pronounced old and warn and they recommend a new Edelbrock 600cfm Performer carb that should improve overall drivability and street performance as I do not have a wild cam fitted . I was fully aware that the 750cfm Holley was massively oversized for the 305 cu inch Camaro IROC -Z installed in the car so going for the new Edelbrock which they have in stock complete with a new fuel rail and a filter as there was no inline filter fitted before . Can`t wait to get it back and see how how things are improved .

They're great guys and very successful drag racers too. Their builds are second to none. I don't think you go far wrong with them.

Hi Bobby , so you know Williams Bros Speedshop then ? where are you based ?
I'm in Norfolk but have been in the drag racing scene for many years and we have raced against Dan and Nic a few times. Their race cars are something else. If I was having one built it would be them doing it. Never been to their premises though.

Having lived in South Northants for over 25 years I was amazed to find they are only 6 miles from me and never heard of them . Dan and Nic are really great friendly guys and I hit it off with them straight from the off . As you say , they have a life time of experience in drag racing and engine builds having grown up in the drag racing scene with their dad . Dan gave me a full tour of all there workshops and the cars wide range of cars they were working on was amazing to to see . From many classic Yanks to modern Yanks , hot rods , trucks , the lot . Their engine build workshop and dyno room were cleaner and tidier than an operating theatre and they are clearly perfectionists . Chatted with the guys for ages . They also have a young lass called Holley ( get it ??) who was UK junior Drag Racing Champion join them last year after completing studies at Silverstone Engineering Collage . She gave me a lift home after I dropped the car off and was telling me about growing up in the drag racing scene and her dad is Chief Starter at the Pod and her mum runs the hospitality centre . Having been an engineer myself I immediately picked up the right vibe from them and new I had discovered a real `gem` of a set up should I need work done in the future . They have body and spray shops too and I think most of their trade is by word of mouth but Nic told me they have plans to develop and build a shop on site and have `drive in` open days on Saturdays where petrol heads can hang out and have a coffee .
Nic called yesterday to say the Vette is sorted and wanted me to drive it and see if I am happy before paying the bill and taking it away . We agreed to do that on Monday as we have rain of biblical proportions here this morning ! Can`t wait !!

Surprising what you find on your doorstep. There are a quite a few race car and engine builders in your area. Could be worth a trip out if Williams Bros opens up a place on Saturdays as not too far from me. Rain stopped play for us today too. We wanted to get on with the race car but as it lives in the back of the truck it was rather damp to get it out in the open.

There sure is Bobby , I am 7 miles from Silverstone and very much in the heart of the Race Car specialist triangle as I call it . Plus many of the supporting trades and suppliers as well , some of which I have used . A real stroke of luck finding Williams Bros though with such specialist US knowledge so close by . When I hear that they open up on Saturdays I will let you know .
Defo not a day for getting cars out in the rain today . I rent storage / workshop space at PJM Race Preparations near Silverstone and usually have to shunt the Race Support Truck and transporter trailer out to get the C3 out when the guys are not off racing somewhere .DSCF2589.JPGDSCF0095.JPGDSCF0098.JPG

That's a good space to have. Unfortunately we lost ours but something will turn up again.

That`s a shame , hope you find somewhere soon . What do you race ?
We used to run in Super Pro ET but we're all getting on a bit now so we just do the fun meetings Ike Dragstalgia at Santa Pod which we hope to get to in July. Originally we ran a 351 Cleveland motor in it but after breaking it soo many times it is now a 468 Chevy on a 2 speed glide box.

I’ll have to put Dragstalgia in the diary, do you know the date?

Williams Bros = safe hands. You will be well happy
That`s good to hear . They clearly have a great reputation and I certainly took to the guys right from the first meeting . Pick the Vette up tomorrow , can`t wait to see and feel the hoped for transformation . 🤞
