Looked like a plane on wheels. That was the futuristic look of the mid/late fifties
An early 60’s station wagon is a pretty cool ride now. Did your families one have a 6 or an 8 in it?

It had a small block V8, but the car had to weigh like 2 tons
Was a good car to go to the drive in moves with a hot broad as plenty of wrestling space :)

Frankly, I rather see station wagons made today rather than the ugly SUVs

Now this is nice. Had many of this generation Chevrolet Caprice wagons over the years. Very practical when having large dogs ( Great Danes & Alsatians)

When we were kids we thought the “coolest” wagon was the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser, with the glass panel in the roof and the side glass that curved into the roof. So cool.733A1F90-C75A-4136-AE4E-4D03E6D4464C.jpeg

Olds had a very cool nose in the 70s. The hood scoops don't work with some colour combos but if you get it right it works very well. I prefer blacked out grills on them.

I did a Silver Cloud III some seven years ago. Supposed to have arrived with all the welding done both sides so ready for filling and paint but this is just some of what i found when i ground off the primer😡 When she was done she looked stunning though 🤩

RR's & Bentleys seem rather odd if one looks at the 'building' logic. You have a mix frequently of mild steel and alluminium panels. Typically on later cars a steel monocoque body and aluminium doors, boot and bonnet. Earlier cars with separate chassis cars cars can vary. It couldn't have been for ease of construction (steel would be easier to manufacture presumably) - doubt if it was for weight saving (most people would never open a bonnet and most likely have flunkys open doors for them) - understand the use of hand rolled and formed aluminium for short production runs and the costs of producing the large press tool required for some panels..........its the poor rust protection that seemed to plague the Silver Cloud and S series cars that surprises. Even the 'interaction' between adjoining steel and aluminium panels that seem to plague other high end manufacturers RR seemed to deal with OK.

Rust protection was a non existent word for the majority of UK manufacturers. Brand new Jaguars left Browns Lane in the 60’s and 70’s rusting away from the inside out. And as for RR and Bentley, on a car costing more than the average house in the London area they should never have rusted like they did.

Is that the replica of the Griswold's Vacation wagon? To our eyes the joke is obvious but I'm betting there were a few Americans saying "Hmmm nice - I wonder if they do it in blue?" 💩 ;)

Correct 👍👍 I expect they got through a few. I don’t think the car in the film was too good after the 100ft leap off the end of the unfinished road.
