Doesn't it scare you that young people now want smaller cars with smaller engines if any engine at all.
Worse still, an amount of young people aren't even interested in driving nowadays. And yeah, with the cost of everything nowadays, I can't blame young people for getting cars with pathetic sized wheezy motors as that's all they can afford including insurance and fuel etc. No wonder they aren't that interested in driving when the reality is something boring and rubbish.

And driving itself is getting less enjoyable; more traffic, lower driving standards, more aggression, the increased chance of accumulating some points due to some unforeseen unthinking camera trap, worse road conditions...

But then, hey, 'pathetic weezy sized motors' aren't all bad. My little Suzuki hatch has just a naturally aspirated 1.6-litre engine... and it'll do 0-60mph in the same time as that aforementioned 383 '70 Challenger R/T, heh – and it can also punch out north of 40mpg to a tank, which was certainly something my '68 Charger could never do. And it would certainly run rings around either Dodge on a track.

Okay, so some a lot of that is to do with the fact that it weighs just over a tonne, but still... 😋

Different strokes for different folks – all that matters is that they're enjoying it. As you say, cost probits many from looking at much else, these days. And owning something you can actually drive and not worry about is much more gratifying than owning something potentially finickity that's too expensive to have fun with.

Don't worry James - in 50 years time the Toyota Prius will be a Classic Car.....:eek:o_O

Funny you mention the Prius – I put that into a future classics article a year or two ago. If I recall correctly, the first-gen version made its market debut 25 years ago this December!

'Classic and Sports Car' magazine has a regular feature on 'Future Classics'. In the November issue they've chosen the C8. They seem a bit ambivalent about the step change from front to rear engine suggesting that GM wants the C8 to be recognised as a 'cut-price alternative to a modern hypercar'
They sum up the article with.... 'The good ol' boys were never likely to agree but change is undoubtedly good for this grand old dame of of the sports car world - and Chevrolet isn't struggling to find buyers who can see that'
Whether the C8 is going to become a memorable 'Vette in the future remains to be seen.

I have to kind of agree with you there. My missus has a C1.... the Citroen one .... and with its 75 (?)bhp 1 litre engine, its no barrel of firepower. BUT its a lot of fun to drive around the country roads where I live, and the initial 0mph to top of 1st gear speed is actually quite fast because the whole car weighs about the same amount as the power steering pump in my C3 :ROFLMAO: Its amusing to catch out much more powerful sporty cars on that "0 to top of 1st" sprint as it launches so well. After that though its game over for me, obviously.

And yes, my daily diesel is faster than my C3 and does 50mpg easily. But I much prefer driving the C3 as its more involving (both cars are manual gearbox) and more fun to drive.
