Very special race vette in Classic American Mag

Really lovely car and set up … I’ve got an ‘87 with the L.98 engine … ported plenum and Siamese’s runners much like your Edelbrook setup. AIR and cats removed, long tube headers, cool running, bigger injectors etc. etc.
I’ve researched the Procharger kit time and again … part of me thinks it looks like a well designed kit that can be bolted in “ready to go”. Really appealing! Part of me worries that I’d be creating a bit of a monster, that may not be so day to day usable as the current car, and potentially grenade spec (sooner or later it’ll go “bang”!!)
How does the L.98 / Procharger set up work for you as a road car ?
PS … Mine will be in Classic and Sportscar in the February edition representing the 80’s!!
Hi engine is ZZ3 fully forged 4bolt main etc etc it blew a head gasket shortly after I got it and had MLS gaskets fitted and is ok now
Originals were composite so lasted quite
well
The Procharger and Intercooler were not a bolt on kit but fitted by Infinite Velocity Reno
It’s a very tight fit
It’s a full on race car so not very forgiving on the road suspension approx 2 inch travel
Classic American don’t normally do modified cars but as it’s such a sleeper they did

A Procharger IS most definately a tight fit in a C3 engine compartment......where yours is mounted (over the front suspension 'A' arm is the only logical position). Before I chose the NA 'stroker' configuration for mine I did 'toy' with the idea of installing a Procharger or Vortec blower but after taking multiple measurements realised with the additional bulk of the BB engine it would need an aftermarket tubular suspension 'A' arm to enable it to have any chance of fitting under the hood with theupper horizontal members of the 'A'arm effectively 'cradling' the blower casing during excessive suspension movement (not ideal!).........even then it would have probably needed some modification to the hood and always. Big block's need all the radiator and cooling they can get which leaves very little, if any space for the essential intercooler - even if it were possible to route the in/out pipework 'up front' to a intercooler mounted in the nacelle it would no doubt have a negitive effect on cooling air.........so, in short a really good effort by the installers with your car!

Thanks Rosco a big block would be impossible I think
The mods are exstensive transverse vbp front suspension with tubular a arms it really is a work of art 😀

There’s a lot more space in the C4 bay to fit the Procharger kit (goes in the space of the AIR pump). But I think for now I’ll stick to my more everyday set up …
Still love the idea of it though 😁
I’ll probably weaken one day!

Hi Mick.
Great article about your amazing modified C3. I think that would be my dream car!
A similar article for Vette News would be good?

Mick, I'm toying with the idea of side exhausts for my car. Do you know which exhausts you have on yours and are your covers aluminium or fibreglass?
