What's Going On at Ian Allan?

Here in the USA since GM cannot sell directly to a single buyer, GM gives the dealer two ways to buy (they become the owners)
either paying GM upfront or via GM short term loans before vehicles are sent to dealers

I would not like to think a high dollar Corvette I buy has been parked outside on a shipping dock in all kinds of weather for who knows how long

Well that’s what was happening here in the UK, that was straight from Ian Allan themselves, told to me when I collected our new Corvette from them, by the guy who should know what’s happening within Ian Allan.

For those that have been to Ian Allan’s, they would question, where would they have parked them all as room was very tight.

My question would be, we’re GM unhappy for a few years with Ian Alan’s capacity to take any vast volume of Corvettes ?.

I am sure Ian Allan have got their reasons (which would not be their fault) of why it’s happened.

At the end of the day we will probably never know the real answers.

That seems a very slap dash way to operate. Yes, great for Ian Allen, but Not very good or appealing to Chevrolet/GM.
Could be why they GM wanted to look at other dealer options.

Of the 11 they had in stock at Arnold Clark Altrincham when I visited a couple of weeks back three all ZO6 models were outside as inside was full..

That's fricking great :(
So now a new Corvette before the buyer has it, now has water stains, dirt wind blew on it
They are not selling some ricer, and you'd expect for the higher prices they charge in the UK
that they would be kissing customers asses and treating them as high dollar customers
Why at the least are the covers GM puts on Corvettes for shipping still now on them ?

Imagine if they have a low view on their customers during the sale, how the Corvettes are treated during service or repairs ?

Reminds me back in 1994 when I bought the big dollar C4 ZR-1 at a dealer for prepping the car
I went to pick it up and got inside of it to find french fries on seat, radio set to some mexican station full blast and both seat
set angled back
Here I had not driven it one block and some wetbacks treated a new ZR-1 that way

So as a nice guy I am, with a big mouth,
went to the showroom and blasted the manager, fricking customers were running out the joint

They never worked so fast to fully detail the car inside or out before I would do the final signing of sale :(

I suppose being outside has become the norm in many dealerships. Rain shouldn’t hurt a car much.

Imagine black paint that is still new and water stain spots all over it :-(
Yea, let some illegal alien at $2 an hour buffing that new clear coat

How can anyone reasonably expect a customer to accept storing a car of this cost (I won't say value as obviously the dealers doesn't recognise value in the same way as his customers will) and leave these cars out in the open in all weathers?
One would have thought that GM over the years of abortive Corvette marketing attempts here in the UK would have learned something about their intended market, the people over the years here in the UK (and USA) responsible for the 'abortive' marketing are long-gone from their original positions.......if only to be replaced by the next generation of 'incompetants', who also further down the line also cock everything-up and eventually get 'the elbow'. I'm reminded of when GM's UK people presented the C6 ZR1 to us all at the Fairmile with the very limited range colours and options they had poorly chosen for the UK market..........surprised they hadn't included a 10 gallon Stetson hat and gun such was the Yeh Ha good ole boy options offered to the UK market.

Can't disagree with you Ross! I think the engineers know all about the other markets as the cars have to meet local laws e.g. lights etc but it is the marketing and sales people who don't seem to have a clue and hence the sort of events you are describing. I'm afraid that a lot of people in those sorts of position [and not a small % of the gen pop] think all counties are very much like America and what is good for the US is good everywhere which simply isn't true.

I am reminded of a friend who worked for a US company which set about increasing the number of European companies it owned. In one market [I won't say which but it was on the European mainland], it bought such a company and was told by the people working there that changing the name to the American group name would scupper the company [which had a poor name over there from previous efforts] and it was much better to just continue with the original name albeit now owned by the American company. Of course, they wouldn't hear of it, rebranded, reorganised and within 12 months had reduced sales/turnover by 80%..... Way to go, guys! Of course, the CEO and senior team got bonuses for such a marvellous strategy and most of the workers got made redundant. Marvellous!!

The UK problems is not from GM but the business model of those selling new C8s in the UK

Last July shows that the Stingrays were at 28,244 built
The Z06 was at 8,900 and the E-Ray is 795.

The grand total so far for the 2024 model year stands at 37,939 C8s built

If a business in the UK where maybe lucky they order and buy from GM at best 100 a month is a drop in the bucket for GM as total C8s made per month and is not going to make any thought of that UK business model at all, maybe not even worth the costs of shipping to the UK

Cannot expect a low volume seller who also sells other nameplates costing 50% or less in having any business model to treat the care of the C8s or that customer base better and why those C8s are being treated no better than ricers sitting next to C8s

Interesting, Europe and Asia dump millions of vehicles in the USA yearly and lucky if they want 100 Corvettes sold a month

UK being so negative of ICE and pro battery does not help the low volume of C8s being treated well by those selling them

Might help if those in UK began buying new Corvettes and not mostly C3s :)

Looking at their premises, it doesn’t seem glamorous enough for a GM franchised dealer. Perhaps that had something to do with GM pulling the plug on them .

So what happens to all those customers who bought a C8 from them ?
Who then would cover all GM warranty or servicing ?

So this will reflect badly to GM and to Corvettes as a whole when it was that IAN that was only one to be at fault

One example is GM requires by around 7,500 miles the DCT filter must be replaced
Not being done by an approved GM service center voids all warranty of the DCT :(

Example of a C8 owner who did NOT have the required GM service done

DCT warranty voided

I would assume the new official Chevrolet dealers will do the services on Ian Allen motors supplied cars under the GM warranty
