On inspection the ball joint in the relay rod has worn oval, so need to replace that.


Steering box stripped cleaned and painted, new bushes popped in the freezer overnight ready for fitting tomorrow

Steering box rebuilt, with new bushes, bearings, seals and balls and pre load set, blinking freezing today I had a woolly hat on!

Gearbox tailhousing painted as it was looking a bit tatty after cleaning. Might start putting the box together at the weekend.

You have the L88 arches, I love C3s with the extended arches and the tyres filling those arches correctly, not nice to see wheels set back in, on a car, to me a performance car needs stance and attitude, have you tried a wheel and tyre yet under those arches? With the regs that you have to comply with are there any stipulations on wheel widths or diameters?

Wheel sizes need to be period correct but most of the regs are around tyres. Will probably run 15 x 10 front and rear but with staggered tyres sizes, basically the same as you’d see on a GT40, hopefully look like this

Body back on the chassis and bolted down



Only managed to put some helicoils in the gearbox as I couldn’t find a 19mm drill bit so couldn’t put a drain plug in. Box rebuild is on hold until I get one then.

Steering box and linkage all on. Track rods marked up so I remember which way to extend.





Going to try and do something with this mess as wipers are chuffing expensive.

Might be worth looking in to replacement wipers off a later model? Mine are marked Trico but are off a later car I believe, does your wiper motor work?

The later ones seem just as expensive but will have a look. No idea if the motor works I’ll give it a test

Spent most of the evening searching for a circlip from the gearbox side cover that shot across the garage so little done. But did manage to get the drain plug tapped and installed in the gearbox and the casings cleaned up.

Side cover reassembled with new seal and selectors. Tailshaft bearing and seal in.




Mainshaft disassmbled.


And rain stops play, some how I’d missed how battered the 3/4 synchro hub was. So need to get a new one.

Finally pulled my finger out and started stripping the paint off the doors. One down

Door number 2 done. Roof panels, rear valance, vent covers and wiper door to go. Are you bored yet?!

The wheel arches look nicely blended to the body shape, I can't remember have you also got flares for the front fenders?
