I used to drive my old bosses one a lot in the late 70’s. It was L reg 72/73 and a mustard colour. He bought it new, I think it was his favourite out of all his cars.Another niche market Chrysler V8 powered GT for the discerning gentleman of impeccable taste . the Bristol 411 .

I used to love going to the Earl’s Court motor show. Fond memories.Another 60`s / 70`s beauty was the Iso Lele that had a Chevrolet 327 from 1969 to 1972 when Iso went over to Ford Cleveland power . All the afformentioned cars bring back memories of the Earls Court Motor Shows of that era .View attachment 28372
Very similar styling ques to the Lele apart from pop up head lights , so very 70`s but so much more style than todays supercars with all their flamboyant aero addenda and razor edges .
Yes indeed ! Saw my first Miura in the multistory car park and an Espada driven by what looked like an oil sheik as walked up into town .I used to love going to the Earl’s Court motor show. Fond memories.
Weird ! Looks more like a hover craft or something from Flash Gordon !!!I was in the Norfolk Broads a few years back and noticed a strange looking car parked in a garage, I took the below photo and found out its a Sabberton Omen, hand built by Alan Sabberton and powered by a Chevy V8.

I saw my first Miura in the multi storey car park and an Espada driven by what looked like an oil sheik as we walked up into town after the show . Me any my school mates hang out in the multi storey car park after the show needless to say as it gave a good view of down onto London Transport tracks where the LT`s last working steam locos ( ex GWR Pannier Tanks hauled maintenance trains from Neasden Depot . That was after British Railways steam operations ceased in 1968 .I used to love going to the Earl’s Court motor show. Fond memories.
Before he became mega wealthy Rod the Mod had a Marcos GT in 1969 .Rod Stewart’s mum lived a few houses down from a friend, we saw his various Miura’s nearly every day. He had the big mansion over Teddington way , but still spent a lot of time at mums in Muswell Hill.
He was always a Lamborghini man.
Still got/driving his blue C5 Convertible thoSaw paul McCartney driving an Espada at Piccadilly Circus, Linda was in the passenger seat with Denny Lane sitting in the back. The Espada was 70’s metallic Brown.
I think he got his first miura as part of a record contract deal. It was a yellow one, we saw it all the time. That would have been 1970.I knew a guy ( sadly deceased some years ago ) who was a club member from my Sporting Bears Motor Club days who owned Twiggy`s 1969 Miura S and saw it at events several times . Last I heard it sold for £1.2 million !!

That was the Lime Green one. Went to Australia for many years, then came back here. Probably worth a lot more than that now.I knew a club member back in my Sporting Bears Motor Club days who owned Twiggy`s 1969 Miura S . Last I heard it sold for £1.2 million !!!
100% with you on Railtons and rarer close relative Brough Superior - sadly most Railton's had 4 door saloon bodies - most open tourers now are re-bodied saloons that perhaps had terminal woodworm. 4 door saloons were the vehicle of choice of the Met's Flying Squad. With lightweight British timber framed coachwork and just under 100 HP from a 4 litre straight 8 sidevalve engine they were far quicker than most cars on the road in the day.We tend to think of european cars looking for cheap american power as generally fitting V8's from one or more of the 'big three'. Back in the '30's Railton cars were rebodying Hudson Terraplanes with the 4010 cc Hudson straight eight motor. The Railton Terraplanes were large very fast cars for their day - they've been more recently dubbed the Shelby Cobra of the thirties.
The later Railton 8 was based on the Hudson 8 with now a 4168 cc straight 8. Nearly 1400 Railton 8's were built with a range of Saloon, Touring and Sports bodies by different manufacturers. Lightweight versions made in 1935 were claimed to be the fastest production cars in the world.

Some time back in the '60's I vividly recall seeing a Railton 8 Special for sale on the forecourt of a small local used car dealer. It looked like something from another planet parked among the Anglias, Minors and Vanguards of the day. It was at least twice the size of anything else, it was covered in mud, wearing dented alloy body panels, leaking fluids from every possible source and looking as if it had just completed the Peking to Paris - and probably won!
I can't remember what it was being sold for, probably a pittance in today's terms but still well beyond the pocket of an impecunious twenty year old. It lives on in my memory though.
That`s the one , I have a photo of it somewhere in my collection when it turned up at a Sporting Bears Dream Rides event at the Gaydon Motor Museum . The owner was a guy named Heitzmann and it was part of his ` collection ` . A scale model ( 1:28 I think ) of the exact car was mounted on an engraved plinth and donated to the Bears as an annual trophy award by his widow after he passed away .That was the Lime Green one. Went to Australia for many years, then came back here. Probably worth a lot more than that now.
Mind you, Miura’s were never cheap, they were always something special. Almari in Manchester had Rods last miura for sale a few years ago, dark metallic blue £1.6 million. I remember the day he got it, he bought it round to show his ole mum and sister.
