The old big block hood on a small block to obtain more street cred. Tho in most cases the BB hood is nicer looking than the standard hood.
This is what my 1968 small block also has - a big block hood on it. I didn't know at the time I bought it, just thought it was a standard hood for the car. It was only at one of my first shows I went to when someone asked "is that a real big block?", and he explained why he asked that question.

Yep, instant street cred with a BB hood. It was a very popular upgrade in the 70’s and 80’s. If you decided to do it and kept your original hood you could always put it back to factory stock. Tho I think most people would prefer the look of the BB hood.

And........the people with big block Vettes replace their stock big block/LT1 hoods with...........the taller L88 style hoods, often for the same reason...........don't seem to get the question "is that a real L88"? though (not that 99% of people would know what a L88 is - not that you'd even see one here in the UK)

Got to admit I've never been a fan of 'power bulges' or 'heat vents' on any car hood. They're usually an admission by the designer that they couldn't properly integrate the cars mechanicals with the body. On the C3 to my eye they destroy the clean lines of the front end - but that's just me. As they say, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. :);)

TBH I'm with you on this........using a L88 style hood on mine only coz' I have to.......prefer the elegance of the stock BB/LT1 hood.

I remember late 70’s we put a L88 scoop onto the hood of my friends capri. 😂😂. He loved it. I’ve always thought the L88 hood too big for my liking.

The intake manifold on mine isn't exactly a high-rise item - the air filter is a lower 2" thick unit (with air filter top to make the difference) and there is still only 3/8" or so clearance at the closest point!

It certainly looks good in Blue. Not keen on the wheels tho. Love the hood, not OTT at all.
My only criteque is why GM didn't make the faux BB hood vents working items.......having said that individuals in the 'States have done exactly that........and it doesn't do anything oddly.........

Might let a little bit of heat out the engine bay, and especially on a BB every little helps.
