What have you done today

I went to the Railways 200 whistle off event at Bishops Lydeard on New Years Day. As predicted, the weather before NYD was excellent, the weather after NYD was excellent. Both days I have to work on. BUT on NYD itself when I had the day off and could have done any number of drives etc with my Corvette - of course it absolutely chucked it down that day. So I took the wife and child to Railways 200 in the family car, and proceeded to wake up the child. If you watch closely in the video on WSR facebook page of the whistle off, you can see in the bottom left hand side someone with a pushchair with moving away near the start. That's my wife's claim to fame :ROFLMAO:20250101_115715.jpg

I bet that sounded fantastic , I know many Heritage Railways were doing that but as you say , the weather couldn`t have been much worse if it tried ! There will be lots of 200 years of railways celebrations in the UK this year including a big event in August at the Alstom Works at Litchurch Lane , Derby which was originally the site of the Carriage Works on the huge Derby Locomotive Works that dominated the town and now sadly mostly gone as with Doncaster , Crewe and Swindon . The Alstom Works will be open to the public showcasing modern rolling stock as well as invited steam locos . I am really hoping that we get 70013 `Oliver Cromwell ``s boiler back from contract repair asap so we can get it back on the frames and wheels , steam tested and run in by then . It would be a big deal for our group as `Ollie` is famous for having hauled the last British Railways operated steam loco hauled train on August 28th 1968 when BR ceased all steam operations . He would make a perfect contrast to the working replica of Locomotion Number 1 that hauled the worlds first public passenger train on the Stockton & Darlington Railway in 1825 . As the pinnacle of British loco desing `Ollie ` was built at Crewe in 1951 ( my birth year ) and would demonstrate 126 years of progress in loco design . I am up for that gig if it comes off !! 🀞

Unusual and nice to see a mid year convertible with its hardtop on. Even better as it’s in Nassau Blue. Fantastic number on it as well.
I like the Harry Mann rear plate frame as well. One of my previous 1971 Corvettes was bought through Harry Mann and in the file was the original sales sheet which was pretty darn sweet to have.

Not particularly what I did today but I did get a reply today to my pre-Christmas email to the marketing director of Arnold Clark regarding the opening of their Altrincham Corvette dealership which is slap bang in the middle of our region. They've accepted my offer to display a bunch of Corvettes at their grand opening which they say will be in a couple of months. They've offered up some Corvettes to display at shows which for us in the frozen tundra is a way off, so if anyone has any largish shows coming up shout up and I'll put it to them?

Never noticed the plate frame when I noticed the plate. Just had a look on eBay.com, original frames are making good money, but they reproduce them new in the wrapper for $25 each.

That's well known club member Vaughn in the photos, owner of Coupe "66 UET". Nice to see both cars together, getting a lot of attention.

Top man! As you know, lots of discussion/photos on the Facebook page of those new C8s (including Z06(s)) being collected at Southampton docks by Arnold Clark transporters. So as well as Arnold Clark in Glasgow and Altrincham selling C8s, there's also "Lumen" in Shropsire(?) too.

Well just three "North of Watford Gap" wouldn't be fair would it, now that it looks like Ian Allan can't sell new ones? ;) See however that Arnold Clark have "Click & Collect" locations down here. Also have a big used car branch just down the road from Ian Allan in Chertsey.

From the Facebook discussion, was that 60 UK cars at Southampton or 150? Someone saying that the C8s looked like 2024 build spec cars? I read earlier that 2025 spec cars were built from 9/9/24. Also wonder how Parts USA will be affected by this? Will still be a GM authorised Vette service/repair outlet?

I saw 150 mentioned..

Parts USA have got such a good reputation that I can't see this new roll out affecting them much if at all. Parts USA are less than a mile from my office so I'll pop in soon and see what their feelings are

No matter whatever the general economic 'situation' is here in the UK (and as we're always hearing on the media for many people it's dire) there is (and always has been) a sector of the population who are not just 'doing alright' but actually benefitting from whatever is currently happening.
Irrespectively for a UK based company to seeming invest perhaps tens of millions in marketing C8's is frankly amazing. I wonder how they view the furure financial situation here in the UK? - do they know something that none of us are privy to? - is the USA's potential over-supply issue of premium sports cars had a bearing on this seeming mass import of C8's? - have GM given extended credit terms to Arnold Clark? - all really amazing stuff! - love to be a fly on the wall.

Well, selling new US vehicles has been tried before in the last 30 odd years, and all without great success. ( not including the Chrysler groups products ie Voyagers and Jeeps)
The mustang seems to be a fairly good seller, and the new Corvette C8 has possibly exceeded sales expectations?
Perhaps they know something we don’t.
Of course both the Mustang and Corvette available in RHD greatly helps, appealing to buyers who would never consider a LHD vehicle.

The Mustang has been a huge success. One year at Stars & Stripes there were hundreds of the bloody things all pretty much identical. They implemented limits the following year πŸ˜„

A couple of ladies I know got them last year as company cars, they love them. They would never have considered them if LHD.
