On the CCCUK Facebook page yesterday, for those who don't "stray" over there.
YES!...Gotta get me one of those!
I've just had my second knee replacement and this is what I'm driving instead of the 'Vette for a while.....

Yesterday I changed out the speedo cog gear on my 1968 as I know I have speedo reading issues. Swapped from a 19 tooth white speedo gear to a brown 18 tooth speedo gear, complete with new bullet.
Easy job - jack up passenger side of car (axle stands etc), slither under car. Unscrew speedo cable from the speedo bullet on the gearbox. Undo bolt holding the tab in that holds the bullet in place (think its a 7/16 socket?). Then pull on the now loose speedo bullet. Swap out the new bullet with new brown speedo gear, pushing it home with the indent for it facing the right way so the tab goes back in. Place the tab back into the indent on speedo and bolt it to gearbox. Screw the speedo cable back onto the new bullet end. Lower car to the ground.

.... then run out of time to go and test drive it to see what the difference is. Covered in dirt and oil, and needing to go make dinner for the missus.

And over the weekend I did another really complex car job, which I shall explain with photos:

A follow up to this - I took the car out for a drive today, first time after making the speedo cog change, and I can confirm it has solved my problem. Speedo is now pretty much perfect - it reads about 1 mph faster than my phone's GPS speed. Now compare that to my wife's old Citroen C1 where she also used the phone's GPS too, and it was about a 2 mph difference in speed (2 mph faster on gauge compared to GPS).

(and to recap the problem - my speedo previously used to under read, so I'd be speeding without knowing. E.g. 60mph on the gauge was about 66/67 mph in reality).

That would be pretty dangerous round my way. A friend recently got caught doing 23mph in a 20 zone. Fined and points.

A good result there Skipper and a lucky escape from speeding fines . (y)

Likewise . I got a fine and points 3 years ago doing 34 entering a 30 zone in the Vette as the speedo needle bounced about a lot at low speeds so read ` plus or minus please yourself ` !! Caught by a damned mobile camera van and I was already off the gas because I knew the road through the village in question was narrow and blighted by parked cars . :(

Iā€™m sorry to say this and I think the majority of drivers think the same, the motorist has become a very easy target for revenue.

Thankfully I found out my car was "speeding" quite early on after getting it. My now wife was following me and asked me later why I was speeding through town. So I just knew to drive 10% slower than what the speedo said.

Carried out the routine 7500 mile service on the Grand Cherokee today , plus the 3000 mile transfer case ATF change due this time round . Also sprayed copious amounts of PTFE lubricant on all the suspension joints which I do at every service to keep everything free and easy . I always find it gratifying that a vehicle seems to drive much sweeter after oil and filter changes and a bit of TLC . Four new has made a difference too ! A 9 mile blast home up the A5 from the workshop proved the point . :)

I recently installed one of these in my family car, thus committing myself to a life of poverty and limited Corvette usage. Do they do a third seat conversion kit for a C3?

Well last night actually , so here`s one for all you aging rockers out there ! Went to see veteran rock band `Stray` at the Stables Theatre in Wavendon , Milton Keynes . Still fronted by lead guitarist and singer Del Bromham a founder member of the band dating back to 1966 . I got `into` Stray in the late 60`s and saw them several times live in their early years including the huge Weeley Rock Festival in August 1971 with their own style of Progressive Rock . Whenever they are paying in my local area I try to see them and they never fail to put on an awesome show . Del is now an agile 73 year old Stray-on-17-November-2024-resize_2fb14e2b855d39d6e26a950028d4bb27.jpg111111_stray1a.jpgStray Pete Dyer.jpgand an amazing guitarist and is accompanied by childhood friend Pete Dyer from their Acton , London days also on guitar and vocals They have recently released a new album ` About Time` that is now added to my Stray album collection . Keep on Rockin` šŸ¤˜
